William L. Murphy, 83, of Bridgewater, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2026, following several strokes and a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease over the past several years.

He was the beloved husband of Linda C. Murphy, with whom he shared 60 wonderful years of marriage.

In addition to his wife, William is survived by his daughter, Kelly A. Whiting, and her husband, William A. Whiting, of Bridgewater, and his son, Ryan J. Murphy, and his wife, Melissa, of Raynham. He was the loving father of the late Sean P. Murphy, and is survived by Sean’s wife, Corinne Murphy, of Raynham.

William was a proud grandfather to Michael Whiting, Zachary Whiting, Kaylie Whiting, and Liana Murphy, who brought him great joy and cherished memories.

He was the son of the late Patrick J. Murphy and Margaret Murphy of Brockton. William graduated from Brockton High School in 1961 and went on to serve in the Army National Guard. Following his time in the military he dedicate 37 years of his career to the telephone company, working for New England Telephone, NYNEX, Bell Atlantic, and Verizon.

William was a man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved fishing, boating, reading, and, most of all, spending time with his family. He also had a generous heart and devoted countless hours to volunteering and helping others. Over the years, he volunteered with organizations including Hospice, MainSpring House, Veterans services, Special Olympics, the Telephone Pioneers, and many others.

His kindness, generosity, and willingness to give his time to those in need touched many lives. Above all, William treasured his family, and the love he shared with them will remain a lasting part of his legacy.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, extended family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
