Obituary For William J. McGarry,

William J. McGarry, Jr. 78 of Rockland died at his home on March 20, 2018 surrounded by his family and cared for by the Norwell NNA/Hospice. He was born in Weymouth, son of the late William J. McGarry, Sr. and Eleanor A. (Mahoney) McGarry and was raised and educated in Rockland graduating from Rockland High School in 1957. Bill was a proud veteran of the United States Army.

A licensed plumbing contractor, he owned and operated McGarry Plumbing and heating Company for many years and was a longtime employee as a Master Plumber for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts at the Fernald School and the Paul Dever School until his retirement.

Bill was an avid fisherman and gun enthusiast. He enjoyed feeding wild birds and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of the Hanson Rod and Gun Club. The Rockland VFW and he was a life member of the VFW.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years Barbara R. (Harris) McGarry. He was the father of Roy A. DelPrete of Halifax, Kelly A. Gabler of Whitman, Dorraine A. DelPrete of Rockland, William J. McGarry, III of Abington, John E. DelPrete of Rockland, John E. McGarry of Braintree Shawn M. McGarry of Pembroke, the late Dale M. DelPrete and his "adopted son" Dale R. Lourenco of Rockland. He was the brother of Donna Pittman of Kingston, Janet Goldrup of Florida and Michael McGarry of Rockland. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Bill's family invites relatives and friends to celebrate his life on Monday March 26, 2018 from 5-8 PM at The Magoun Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union Street, Rockland, MA 02370. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at 9:00 AM in Holy Family Church in Rockland. Burial with Military Honors will be at 11:30 AM in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
