Obituary For William D. McDonnell

William D. McDonnell, 77 of Rockland died peacefully at his home on May 4, 2016 surrounded by his devoted family. He was born in East Cambridge, son of the late Dennis and Anna (Geary) McDonnell and was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School. William also served with the United States Army Military Police in Germany. A Rockland resident since 1968. Mr. McDonnell had been employed for 30 years as the Food and Beverage Manager and Chief Wine Steward at Symphony Hall in Boston. Following his retirement he volunteered with the Rockland Education Foundation and Meals on Wheels program. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and particularly with his grandchildren on their annual trips to Aruba. Loved by many, known to all as "Pup" as he faithfully attended his grandchildren's extra curricular and sports activities. Husband of the late Katherine R. (Re) McDonnell, he is survived by his children, Julie A. McDonnell, Kathleen Daggett, Maureen McDonnell-Mini and her husband Dean all of Rockland and Trisha LaCroix and her husband Dan of Alton, NH. He was the brother of Mary Jane McDonnell of South Boston and the loving Papa to Timothy, Lindsey and Kelsey Daggett, Hannah and Kasey LaCroix, and Katherine and Nicholas Mini.

The McDonnell family would like to invite relatives and friends to join them as they celebrate his life at the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home 135 Union Street, Rockland on Monday May 9, 2016 from 5:00-8:00pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday May 10, 2016 at the Holy Family Church in Rockland. Burial will follow in Holy Family Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the Rockland Education Foundation, P.O. Box 764 Rockland, MA 02370.
