Obituary For Wiliiam F. Fitzmaurice
William Francis Fitzmaurice, Jr. ("Fitz") of Hanson, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 9th at the age of 76.
Fitz grew up in Weymouth, Massachusetts. He served in the National Guard during the Vietnam War during 1964 – 1970 in the infantry. Fitz was an accomplished licensed journeyman plumber who mastered the trade after learning from his father William. Fitz left an impression on everyone he met, especially those with whom he worked. Fitz brought an uncommon strength and tenacity to every job, and never turned away anyone who needed help. Despite working many long days, Fitz would always make it to the baseball field to watch sons Billy and Anthony play.
In his spare time, Fitz enjoyed golfing and tackling projects at home. Fitz greeted anyone and everyone with a smile and a joke and was the consummate storyteller. He would say, "What's the best thing you can give a friend? A story." In his final years, nothing thrilled Fitz more than mounting his trusty steed (his ride-on lawn mower) and tackling the beautiful expanse of lawn on the property that brought him so much pride.
Fitz is survived by his sons William and Anthony Fitzmaurice and his partner Amy Brewer, his ex-wife Debra Desmond, grandchildren Jackson Fitzmaurice, Aubrey Fitzmaurice, Shea Fitzmaurice, Desi Fitzmaurice, Dominic Brewer, Marcus Byron, Casey Smith and PJ Smith, and his brother Kevin Fitzmaurice and his wife Susan. He is predeceased by his sisters Christine Fitzmaurice and Sheila Tuttle. Fitz will be lovingly missed by the entire Desmond family who adored him as he adored them.
