She is also survived by her sister, Wilma Andrade, and her husband, Ulysses, of Rockland, three nephews Joseph, Michael and his wife, Mary, and Derek and his wife, Candace Andrade and she was a great aunt to her niece and nephews. She maintained close relationships with many extended family members and friends both here and in Germany.
She emigrated to the United States with her parents from Germany at the age of fifteen, learned English, and attended the former Roxbury Memorial High School for Girls graduating in the year 1957. After graduation she went on to work at Bank of Boston which is now Bank of America. She worked in international transfers and retired after 40 years.
Wallie spent her free time enjoying her many grandchildren and great grandchildren, cooking, and keeping in touch with family and friends on social media. Wallie showed love through food. She perfected many family favorite recipes including potato pancakes, shrimp fried rice, “glue balls”, apple crumb cake, and macaroni and potato salad. Her family has fond memories of cookouts, holidays, and sleepovers at her home on Lincoln Road.
Although Wallie lived the majority of her life in the United States, her pride for her homeland of Germany never waivered. She was an avid supporter of Germany in the World Cup and through the Olympics. Traveling was something she enjoyed, taking her grandchildren and nephews on numerous trips to Germany, Canada, and New York.
She was a devout Catholic and attended weekly mass at Holy Family Church in Rockland for as long as her health allowed. Visiting hours will be held at Magoun Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union Street Rockland, on Thursday, July 18 from 4-7pm.
