Obituary For Walter W. Jacoby
Walter W. Jacoby, "Movie Man" 67, passed away quietly at South Shore Hospital on Thursday, March 5, 2009. His open, warm, friendly manner made him who he was. Always ready with a joke, Wally loved people in general. He was the first to approach a new face in the crowd, trying to make them feel at home with a wisecrack that only a family member should make, but somehow Wally always got away with it. Smarter than most, he could do the NY Times crossword puzzle in 20 minutes, disassemble and reassemble any electronic device, sometimes just to see "what made it tick". He knew a lot about a lot and was an engaging conversationalist. The recent loss of his beloved mother, Mary Jacoby, made his battle with diabetes all the more difficult, and although his illness prevented him from participating in a lot of outside activities, the "Wally World" he created in Mom's house afforded him all he needed...movies, music and enough room to share them with his friends. He loved discovering the world of the internet, that allowed him to communicate with his family and friends near and far. "Joke of the Day" became his favorite ritual. He was also an avid fan of the CB radio. Wally retired from The Federal Reserve, Boston and was also employed by Armstrong Cork in Braintree as well as Hendrie's of Milton. He is survived by his sisters Nancy Quinn of Clearwater, FL, Jane Downie of Hanson, Diane Kowalski and Ann Hoyt of Eastham, Susan McPherson of Quincy and Gail Jacoby Dahill of South Boston, and his close friend and companion, Merideth Blaney of Whitman. He is predeceased by two brothers, Dan Jacoby of Eastham and Paul Jacoby of Quincy. Visiting will be held in the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home 135 Union St. ROCKLAND on Thursday March 12, 2009 from 9:15-10:30 AM. A Funeral Mass will follow in Holy Family Church at 11:00 A M. Donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312 or www.diabetes.org/support-the-cause/make-a-donation/mail.jsp
