Obituary For Walter F. Keating

Walter F. Keating, 67 of Abington died on December 15, 2014 after being stricken at his home. He was born in Somerville son of the late Walter and Marion (Lorrey) Keating and was raised and educated there.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served proudly in Vietnam as a member of E Company 51st Ranger Unit as a L.R.R.P. Walter was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans Organization. He was a history buff who read extensively on the military and he truly enjoyed watching the History Channel and its features on military conflicts.

Walter had a long career at the South Postal Annex in Boston serving in the maintenance department until his retirement in 2013.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Margaret M. (Printy) Keating and his children, James M. Keating of Abington Heather A. Reader and her Husband David of Whitman. He was the brother of Nancy C. Keating of Everett and the brother-in-law of Elizabeth B. Printy of Abington. Also surviving are his grandsons Timothy D. Reader, Daniel J. Reader and Jonathan M. Reader.

The family welcomes friends and loved ones to celebrate his life at the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union St. Rockland on Thursday December 18, 2014 from 5-8 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in The Mission Church-Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 1545 Tremont Street Boston, MA on Friday December 19, 2014 at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery in W. Roxbury. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to the Jeffrey Coombs Memorial Foundation, P.O. Box 463 Abington, MA 02351, www.jeffcoombsfund.org.

    Peggy, Heather and James, I am so deeply saddened by your loss. Walter was a wonderful man and he will always be in my memories from the many Fourth of July parties at your house. He will be missed, and know you are all in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.
