Victor C. Shannon

Passed February 28, 2025

Victor C. Shannon 81 of Rockland was born in the Hyde Park section of Boston and made his home in Rockland for over 30 years. He was the son of the late Victor A. and Mary R.(Starrs)Shannon. He was predeceased by brothers Robert J. Shannon and Kevin J. Shannon.

Vic was a member of Holy Family Parish in Rockland and Holy Redeemer Church in Kissimmee FL. Vic returned to Rockland permanently last spring due to his failing health. Vic loved all of his family and his many friends. Vic also loved to play golf at the Rockland Golf Course and at GSV Golf Club in Florida. In his Florida retirement he was known as the “Ever Ready Bunny” always helping everyone with golf cart repairs, sealing driveways, and helping anyone he could. Vic was the best “evah” Santa Claus for many years at a local nursing home and brought smiles all around the retirement community.

A graduate of Boston Technical High School, he went on to graduate from Wentworth Institute.

Vic had a 40+ year career in the engineering department at Boston Edison.

He was a longtime member of the Bethesda Lodge #30 Independent Order of Odd-Fellows, the Weymouth-Braintree Elks #2232, and the GSV Golf Club in Kissimmee Florida. He loved golf, shuffleboard, Texas hold’em, singing, and dancing the Electric Slide.

Vic’s family includes his beloved wife Ann P. Shannon (née Kirby, formerly Haggerty), son Victor W. (Katy) of Kingston, daughter Lisa M. Doten (Kevin) of Braintree, stepdaughter Christine E. Lorimer (Scott) of Duxbury, and stepson Scott M. Haggerty (Glenda) of Rockland. Vic was so very blessed to have five fabulous grandchildren Nathen, Jacob, Eden, Emily, and Griffin. Brother Alfred Shannon(Earlene) and sisters-in-law Susan Shannon and Lorraine Shannon. Vic also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held this spring under sunnier skies when the weather is warmer.

The only golfer I knew that would use a putter when he was 30 yards away from the hole and almost make it. We'll miss him down at good Samaritan Village golf 😢course.

We wish to offer our condolences to Ann and her family. Kathy and I are deeply saddened by the passing of our good neighbor, Vic. Vic loved keeping up his property and exhibited tremendous energy working around his home. If you needed something, such as; a tool or just some advise, Vic was there to help. We will think of him often and miss seeing him in his yard riding on his mower or using his leaf blower to clean up his driveway. May he rest in peace.
