To Valeries Family- Valerie holds a special spot in my heart. She really taught me so much, I remember the first time i met her. She did not do well with new people coming into her home. But once she saw my smile, she came right up to me and gave me the biggest hug. I have never forgotten that day. I worked with her for almost two years. She really was awesome to work with. I am sorry for the loss of a great girl, she touched almost everyone's life!

I first met Valerie at the SSEC when she was 10. As a teacher's aide, I had worked with Valerie for a year and half. I had enjoyed working with her even she was a strong willed person. Valerie was a funny girl thou. Around 20 years later, I was surprised to see her again. I gave her a big hug -- Unfortunately Valerie didn't remember me. That's okay with me. I worked with her again at her residential home. Val often came up to me and signed "bleu, green, hamburger, hotdog and more. While doing her laundry, I enjoyed folding her many cute outfits or clothes for her. It is a big shock for many of us included myself. Valerie was a true survivor or fighter. Rest in Peace - Valerie. She will be happy seeing many pink angels up there. Love you. Valerie. Diane

I worked with Val when she lived at Van Ness and Gilbert House. Val gave me my sign name, as well as both my daughters. Val taught my daughter to sign and because of her my daughter continues to sign today, joining ASL club in college. Val always made me smile! Val would light up a room. When I would visit the houses she always had something to show me, accompanied by a hug and smile. Best wishes and prayers to the O'Reilly family. You were the amazing part of Val's life. Smile for Val today, she would want you to. She never wanted her mom to be sad. Val's life was short but so much longer than predicted. Sorry for your loss.

I worked with Val for a little over 3 years, we first met back in '96. It's because of her that I picked up sign language so quickly. She was very friendly, always eager to start up a conversation or joke around with her peers. Her smile could brighten the dreariest day. I remember how she loved all holidays, especially Halloween! She would be the first to request (and in some cases, fashion) elaborate costumes... Whether at school or at Gilbert house, Val provided lots of laughter to many, many people. Val gave me my sign name, "Crazy A"...which I consider a privilege to this very day. Though I am sad to see this chapter close, I know her memory will live on through the countless stories that are told and shared with her family and friends. Take care, Val.

Having known Valerie since 1988... We attended the same elementary school in Norwell and we haven't seen each other for many years until we finally reunited in 2001. I've ALWAYS enjoyed working with Valerie from time to time for 8 years. Her smile brightened up the room every time I saw her. We talked about her favorite colors -- blue and green, some of her favorite shows on TV and she also drew me a several cards over the years. She was also known to spell my name backwards, "Eel." She was such a sweet angel. Now, she's a guardian angel who's watching over all of her family members and peers. Valerie will be greatly missed and I'm grateful that I've gotten to know her when we were little kids at an elementary school and as an adult. May Valerie rest in peace.

Jan & family, Val is a wonderful women. She has left your family as well as myself with some great memories. She was always the life of the party no matter what the occessions may have been. She inspired me as a teenager to learn sign language so i could communicate with her. Tweleve years later i still use sign language to communicate with my own son as well as the toddlers i teach everyday. She touched many peoples lives in a special way. She will forever be remember and never forgotten by all the people she touched. May she always watch over you and your family and rest in peace.
