Obituary For Timothy “Timmy” J. Cronin
Timothy “Timmy” J Cronin,
September 24th, 1951 – December 28th, 2023. Timothy passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on December 28th, 2023, at the age of 72. Tim was born on September 24th, 1951. He was the second of seven children from Timothy and Claire Cronin, who was born in Dorchester, Boston, MA. He moved to Rockland when the family relocated to the south shore from the city in 1961. He adjusted to life in the burbs quickly and made many friends in the Liberty Street neighborhood. He graduated from Rockland High School in 1969, playing on the basketball team and running track.
Upon graduating, he began to work for Bradlees, the department store chain. He had many jobs over his career, from a stint as a bartender at Squires Lofts in Abington to Embroidery Supervisor at Wearguard in Norwell, to Deli Manager of Assinippi General Store (Tedeschi’s), in Hanover. He was still working part-time at Previte’s in Hanover up to a few months ago. He began coaching Holy Family CYO softball and basketball in his mid to late 20’s. And would then coach his children's sports when given the opportunity.
Timothy was a great human being, who would give his shirt off of his back for anyone who needed it. He helped coach and attended as many of his children's games and events as he could. He enjoyed spending time with his family on vacations or even in his back yard. One of his favorite past times was sitting on the patio in the summer, with a fire, along with good music and, more importantly, great conversation. He was an enthusiastic Boston sports fan and loved to engage anyone in talking about his favorite teams. He married into a musical family, and it was a perfect fit for Tim, as he appreciated music more than most. He loved going to concerts and listening to any genre of music on his headphones, while out gardening in the summers. He was a big Beatles fan, but eventually took the love of his kid’s musical tastes as well as years went on. He was also a bookworm, loving to read anything he could and was delighted learn new things. Tim became a member of the Kiwanis Club in 2015 and enjoyed the time he was able to give back to the community. He enjoyed his cat friends, Chubbs, then Bella. Tim was thrilled to take on the role of PA in 2018, with the birth of his grandson, Samuel. He took such joy in watching Sam learn and play and gave him such love.
Timothy is survived by his wife of 49 years, Kathleen of Rockland, MA, his son Sean and wife Jen and grandson Sam of Ashland, MA and his daughter Colleen of Rockland, MA. Tim was preceded in death by his parents Timothy and Claire Cronin of Rockland, MA, as well as Nephew, Paul T. Cronin of Florida. He is also survived by his 6 siblings, Karen and husband Rick Armstrong of Rockland, MA, Denise and husband Steve Johnson of Whitman, MA, Claire and husband Brenden Ferris of Whitman, MA, Michael and wife Kim of Howie in the Hills, FL, Daniel and wife Kathy of Gardner, MA, and Cheryl and husband Steve Messier of Rockland, MA. And brother-in-laws of Kevin and wife Janice Shea of Haverhill, MA and Jack and wife Michelle Shea of Hanover, MA. He is survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, January 14th, 2024, from 4:00pm-7:00pm in the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union Street, Rockland, MA. A Funeral Mass will be held in the Holy Family Church, 403 Union Street, Rockland, MA on Monday, January 15th, 2024, at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in his name to the Dana Farber Jimmy Fund or the Town of Rockland Food Pantry.

Dear Karen and Rick, It has been a long time.. Please know I was saddened to hear of Tim's passing. I recall you and your younger brother from high school days, when you lived on Liberty Street. I became even more friendly with Tim during the past several years knowing him from Holy Family. He was truly a faithful man. May you all find comfort and solace in trusting in God's great and abundant love and mercy. May Tim now be enjoying God face to face, his reward for his faith. God bless you all.

I worked with Tim for years at Wearguard. My son came home from work one day and said, "Hey Dad, I work with this guy at Assinippi named Tim and he says hi". I knew exactly who he was talking about. Tim was an all around great guy and will be deeply missed. Rest In Peace buddy!
