Obituary For Shirley F. Whitley

Shirley Whitley (aka Nana) passed away peacefully on April 18 of natural causes. Shirley was born in Dorchester on January 15, 1929 to Edward and Ellen Berchtold. Shirley married Paul Whitley of Dorchester on January 15, 1957. In 1961 they settled in Rockland and raised 9 children. She loved travel, her trips included Aruba, Alaska and Europe.

A first lady by all accounts Nana peacefully passed and entered into eternal life with her loving roommate and dear friend Lois Jensen and the caregivers at Southwood Norwell by her side. Because of the current environment her family was unable to visit or be with her at her bedside, but they will be forever grateful to Lois and all the caregivers at Southwood.

Nana was a woman of great faith and served god by living her life which was full of loving and serving others especially her children, grandchildren, extended family and friends. Nana loved everyone and in return she was loved beyond words.

Beloved wife of the late Paul F. Whitley AKA Papa devoted mother to Patricia O'Neill and Joseph O'Neill of Falmouth, Charles Klotz and Diane Klotz of Northwood New Hampshire, Robert Klotz and Joan Klotz of Las Vegas Nevada, Kevin Whitley of Rockland, Nancy and Brian Gardner of Naples Florida, Robin and Norman Davidson of Rockland, Brian and Susan Whitley of Plymouth, Sean Whitley of Rockland, Kerry and Richard Gardner of Rockland.

Also surviving are Nanas 21 grandchildren 19 great grandchildren. Special mention to Niece Ellen O'Neil.

Predeceased by son John Whitley, grandson Paul Klotz, sister Rita Corbett, brothers Howard, Jerry, Warren, and Edward Berchtold.

Due to the covid-19 outbreak services will be private. A celebration of life will be held at a future date. Donations in Shirley's name can be made to Trinity Hospice 545 SW Cutoff suite 9 Worcester, MA 01607.

I am so sorry to learn of Shirley's passing. My sister Marie Bradley was one of Shirley's dining room friends at Southwood. (Aka/ The Golden Girls) Shirley was the first person I met at Southwood as she came across the hall to welcome my sister. She was a lovely lady and always looked so nice.
