Shirley A. (Berglund) Grant 86 of Abington, died on April 27, 2010 after a sudden illness. Beloved wife of the late Coleman H. Grant Jr. for 65 years, she was daughter of the late Chester and Grace (Hughes) Berglund of Brockton. Loving mother of Cheryl A. White of Duxbury, Kent C. Grant of Mount Vernon, Maine, James L. Grant of Plymouth, Marcus J. Grant of Marshfield, and the late W. Richard Grant. Dear sister of Carol Andrews of Abington, Chester Berglund Jr. of Brockton and the late Virginia Snelgrove, David Berglund and John Berglund. Loving grandmother of 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, also survived by many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Grant was born in Brockton and lived in Abington since 1947. Shirley attended 12 years St. Patrick’s Parochial School of Brockton. She also graduated magna cum laude from Bridgewater State College majoring in social work in 1979 and was at that time the oldest graduating student. A real estate broker, Shirley and her late husband founded Grant Realty Company in Abington. She was also a supporter and active volunteer of the local Republican Party. In 1940, Shirley was crowned “Miss Brockton� and featured in the local newspaper headline, “Can We Berglunds Help It!� The Grant family welcomes loved ones and friends to celebrate Shirley’s life on Friday April 30, 2010 from 5-8 PM in the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union St., ROCKLAND. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10:00 AM in the funeral home followed by internment at Melrose Cemetery, Brockton.
