i must say this man may not have served our country to be considered a veteran, but is in fact a true veteran in my own mind after his battle with cancer & the extreme strength he showed us in his last days... veterans day has a new additional meaning to me now.. Every now and then, something or someone comes to your attention that makes you say wow. That person is Shawn Osborne. The way he approached his mortality, his strength, his courage, and yes grace. This is a teaching moment for all of us how we should approach our own lives. We lost a good one with the passing of Shawn. He was such a genuine, honest, nice person. I love that he took the time to connect with me, even though I wasn't around for much of his life. Two years ago on a trip back to Rockland to see our grandmother, he tracked us down. "Hey, do you know this guy in the truck behind us?", my husband asked. "He's honking his horn and flashing his lights." I turned around and said, "Pull over, that's my cousin Shawn!" He knew from talking to my grandmother that we would be in town, and he wanted to make sure that we connected. Good thing Rockland's a small town! We exchanged numbers and he took a day off to spend with us. That's the kind of guy Shawn was. I was so happy that he finally made the trip out to California this past July. I will never pass another Harley Davidson shop without thinking of him. We spend a good deal of time talking about his condition, his life, his friends, his family and especially his siblings. Know that he loved all of you deeply. Till we meet again, Shawn! Godspeed.
