Obituary For Ruth L. Sims

Ruth L Sims (Hunt) of West Dennis formerly of Rockland, passed away on May 1st, 2024, surrounded by family on the Cape where she lived for the past 30+ years at the age of 88.

Ruth was born on October 2, 1935 in Lynn MA to the late Dorothy(Dion) and Harry Hunt, being the youngest of 3 children. Ruth was a 1953 graduate of Lynn English, during her time in the Lynn Public Schools, Ruth made lifelong friends with classmates that she would remain friends with throughout the years. She went on to work at State Street Corp, in Boston, where she met Bill Sims. Their first date was Halloween 1957 and 4 weeks later they were making plans at Thanksgiving when to marry. They married on August 9, 1958.

They started their family in Hudson MA, moved to Rockland and retired to their dream home on Grand Cove Cape Cod.

She was the “Queen Bee” of the West Dennis Chapter of the Red Hat Society (RHS). Ruthie loved to dance. Whether she was Line Dancing or Ballroom Dancing with her husband Bill, she always had the biggest smile when on the dance floor. When not dancing they could be found on the ski slopes of the North East, Colorado, and the French Alps, traveling North America in their RV or on a cruise ship to St. John with friends. Ruthie was always open for a new adventure. She decided for her 75th birthday, she would jump out of a perfectly good plane with her family watching from below. Ruth loved all the dogs she had throughout her life, Cookie, Smokey, Zepp and Molly. And leaves behind her sidekick Mae.

Ruth is survived by her 4 loving children, Cheri (Sims) McGuiness and husband Kevin, Lauri (Sims) Bateman, William Sims and his wife Karen, and Mark Sims. Her 7 Grandchildren, Brittany (Sims) Wagner and Husband Rojay, Joe Bateman and his Fiancé Jenney Wilber, Jessica Sims, Megan Bateman, Kevin J. McGuiness, Michael Bateman and Madison McGuiness. And her two Great Grandchildren, Haley and Leo Wagner who were the sparkle of her eyes. Ruth was predeceased by her loving husband William F. Sims, her brother Robert Hunt and sister Dorothea Polito (Hunt).
