Obituary For Roland A. Pigeon

Roland A. Pigeon, age 94, of Middleboro, formerly of Rockland, passed peacefully on Friday
April 25, 2025.

He was the devoted husband of the late Pauline A. (Ratkiewicz) Pigeon. They were married for 61 years. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy A. (Maurath) Pigeon (d. 1959). He was born in Brockton, son of the late Arthur J. and Jeannette C (Plouf) Pigeon and brother to the late Theresa Marston, Lucille Maynard, Arthur and Edgar Pigeon.

He grew up on a farm in Brockton, where he did not get along with the family goat Helen! He attended Brockton High School and worked in a machine shop in the city before joining the U.S. Navy for 4 years, serving aboard the aircraft carrier USS Coral Sea and visiting ports in
Europe, which provided him with plenty of stories to regale us with over the years.

Following his Navy time, he worked as a milk man, before signing on to become one of the first UPS drivers in the new Rockland facility. He worked at UPS for over 30 years, delivering on the South Shore and then driving trailers, before retiring.

He eventually wanted to get out
of the house more and enjoyed working part-time at the Pace Service Station in Rockland where he was able to keep up with friends and town events. He enjoyed helping his son
build sheds and babysitting his grand dogs. He also served as a member of the Rockland Conservation Commission for many years.

Those who met him will remember his happy demeanor, his gift of gab, and his love to tell a story or joke or make a funny comment, often at his own expense. His family will remember
a dedicated father who was always taking his children to some game or event, who volunteered to drive the bus or help coach the team, who did many repairs to home and cars, who would occasionally surprise them with a breakfast of dropped eggs on toast on a weekend morning, and who was a fashion nemesis for their mother.

He is survived by four children and their spouses: Doreen (Pigeon) and Jerry Curtis of Glen Cove, NY, Gregory and Sharon Pigeon of Marshfield, Douglas and Kathaleen Pigeon of Kingston, and Ronald Pigeon and Daniel Ouellette of Washington, DC. He was the loving
grandfather of Elizabeth (Brian) Au-Curtis, Stephanie (Steven) Augarten, Jason Curtis, James (Ashley) Collado-Curtis, Christopher Curtis, Kayla Pigeon, Melinda (Richard) Charity,
and Alexandra Pigeon, as well as great-grandfather of Olivia, Alexander, Emilia, and Evelyn. Uncle "Bobby" will be greatly missed by his many nieces and nephews.

The Pigeon family invites friends and loved ones to celebrate Roland’s life in the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home on Thursday, June 5th, 2025 from 4:00-6:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Saint Jude’s Children's Research Hospital.
