Obituary For Robert T Rafferty Sr.
Robert T. Rafferty Sr. of Hanover MA passed away on April 16 at the age of 92.
Bob was born in Brighton Massachusetts to the late John Tand Mary Rafferty. He moved with his brother Jack and parents to South Boston and was a graduate of South Boston High School class of 1950. Bob enjoyed sports and played basketball, baseball, ran track and boxed. He was a lifelong sports fan.
While proudly serving his country as a veteran of the Korean War, he returned home, married the love of his life and best friend Josephine Powers and joined the Metropolitan District Commission Police (MDC).
Bob rose to the rank of Lieutenant before retiring in 1992 from the Massachusetts State Police after 39 years of public service.
Bob and "Jo" shared a wonderful life together raising their five children and later ni life going on trips to Aruba. After retirement they enjoyed winters in Florida and summers in New Hampshire with family and friends.
Bob was the past commander of the John P. McKeon Amvets Post in Dorchester, a member of the lodge of Elks and the American Legion.
Bobs family was by far his greatest joy and source of pride. He would say "the three most important things ni life are family, family, family" and he was happiest when spending time with them.
Bob was the devoted husband to his wife Josephine "Jo" (Powers) Rafferty for 70 years.
He will be forever missed by his children Robert Rafferty Jr. and his wife Adrianne of Hanover, Carolyn "Lyn" Owens and her husband John of Hanover, John Rafferty and his wife Laura of Pembroke, Michael Rafferty and his wife Sharon of Rockland and the late Josephine "Joy" Inglis of Hanover. Bob was the loving brother to the late John "Jack" Rafferty of South Boston.
Papa was loved dearly by his 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
The Rafferty family welcomes friends and family to celebrate Bobs life on Thursday April 25, 2024 from 4:00 - 7:00PM at Biggins-Magoun Funeral Home in Rockland, MA.
There wil be a Funeral Mass on Friday April 26, 2004 at 9:00AM Saint Mary's Hanover, Massachusetts.
In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Tunnels to Towers Foundation or D.A.V. Disabled American Veterans
