Robert O. Bird 85, of Rockland, died on May 9, 2012 at the Coyne Healthcare Facility in Rockland after a period of failing health.

Robert was born, raised and educated in Quincy, son of the late Clarence O. and Emma (Larsen) Bird. He was a graduate of Quincy High School. Mr. Bird was a veteran of the Armed Services serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was also a graduate of The School of Practical Arts in Boston. Robert was a Police Officer, Detective, Latent Print Specialist, and Crime Scene Photographer for the Quincy Police Department for 37 years, retiring in 1988. He also worked in the Art Department at the Quincy Patriot Ledger for 18 years.

Robert is survived by his wife, Roberta E. (Dunn) Bird of Rockland. Father of David Bird of TX, Susan Pharmakis of Rockland, Donald Bird of TX, Ellen Affleck of Rockland, and Carol Lagana of FL. Brother of the late Walter S. Bird and Priscilla M. Simpson. Godfather of Robert Larsen of Hull. He is also survived by 13 Grandchildren, and 11 Great Grandchildren. The Bird family welcomes friends and loved ones to celebrate Roberts' life at the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union St. Rockland on Saturday May 12, 2012 from 2:00-5:00 PM. A Funeral Home Service will be held on Monday May 14, 2012 at 10:00 AM.
