Obituary For Robert Howland Bates
Robert Howland Bates, of Whitman, April 22, 2007 Age 83.Husband of the late Mary G.(Robinson) Bates. Father of Marion F. Hanson of Attleboro, Marjorie A. Fisher of Rockland, Marilyn J. Lyon of ME, Maria L. Verrilli of NH and Roberta M. Ibbitson of Whitman. Also survived by 10 grandchildren. Private Services will be held. Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home of ROCKLAND is assisting the Bates family. Mr. Bates died on Sunday at the South Shore Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rockland after a period of failing health. He was born in Weymouth, son of the late Quincy and Lillian (Keene) Bates and was raised and educated there graduating from Weymouth High School. He later graduated from Northeastrn University with a degree in drafting. During his career he worked for the Charles T. Main Co. of Boston and Hingham, Rosenblatt and Son and United Engineers in Boston. He retired as a draftsman from the Fore River Shipyard in 1988 and had served General Dynamics at that location as well. He had been a longtime Rockland resident and had only recently moved to Whitman. Burial will be in Village Cemetery in Weymouth.
