Obituary For Robert F. Comeau

Robert F. Comeau, 77, of Weymouth, MA passed on Sunday, June 21, 2015. He was the devoted soul mate of his wife, the late Anna M. Comeau, and during his time on earth, he drew a wide network of friends and loved ones who were captivated by his charisma, character, charm, and wit.

Bob was raised in Weymouth by his parents Frederick and Margaret, French-speaking immigrants from Nova Scotia, along with six siblings. After finishing high school, a serious car accident curtailed his planned Navy stint, and he continued working as a pressman for Halliday Lithograph in Hanover for over 35 years, retiring in 1993. Bob later became a landscaper with Hondo's Landscaping of Abington before retiring to Venice, FL for ten years, returning to Weymouth with his wife in 2010. They shared 53 devoted years of marriage together before she passed in December 2011.

Bob's sense of humor was remarkable and his friends enjoyed spending time with him because laughter was always a given. Quick-witted and ever ready with an informal ribbing, everyone who worked, fished, or played cribbage with him knew that if he teased you, it meant he really liked you. He even conferred the mocking nickname "Peach" on his brother-in-law Herbert Driscoll, because he said, "Herb was a real peach of a guy" and the nickname stuck.

Bob and Anna raised their seven children – all born within nine years – in the Idlewell neighborhood of Weymouth. An avid fisherman, lobsterman, and shellfish digger, his children loved to join him on the family's much-loved boat. He spent hours and hours playing cribbage, pool, horseshoes, and enjoying the family's "above ground-in ground" pool. Despite his lack of skating ability, he loved to play goalie for his hockey-playing sons.

Bob's bright blue eyes were always impishly twinkling and his contagious smile was framed by a snow white beard that will be forever missed by his family: Gary, his wife Kathy of Rockland, and their sons: Matthew and his wife Catherine, Cory and fiancée Courtney, and Kyle; Glen and his wife Rose of Plymouth, and their daughters Stephanie and Jennifer, and her son Dominic; Gregg of Rockland, and his children Mia and Brandon with their mother Laura; Gene of Rockland, and his children Sara, Judith, Jake and Josh with their mother Jodi; Scott and his wife Patty of Weymouth, and their sons Derek and Chris; Mark and his wife Ruth of Weymouth; and daughter Deidra of Quincy. Bob was also blessed to have the chance to meet his first great-grandson, Adam, shortly before he passed.

Bob is also survived by his sisters Vilda Donovan of Jacksonville, FL; Laura Driscoll of Newburyport, MA; Anna Fahnley of Naples, FL; and Lucy Geran of East Dennis, MA. He is predeceased by brothers Andrew of Braintree and Earl of Weymouth.

The Comeau family invites friends and family to join them at the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home at 135 Union Street, Rockland, on Thursday, June 25, 2015 from 5:00-8:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at 9:00 am on Friday, June 26, 2015 at Holy Family Church. Burial will follow at Holy Family Cemetery. Donations to honor his memory may be made to the Southwood at Norwell Nursing Home's Activities Program in Norwell.

I am so lucky to have years of awesome memories spent with Bob Comeau. He was definitely that guy who lit up a room with his smile and that cool sparkle in his eyes. Bob had a fantastic gift for storytelling and although I'm sure I heard a repeat here & there, he always managed to throw in a new twist to the story. Our family shared several vacations with Anna and Bob but the most memorable for me was the week we spent at my sister's beach house on College Pond. They were both fantastic company to have. They were easy to please and never grew tired of the constant requests to play games! Whether it was playing horseshoes with Gene, fishing with Josh or a card game with the whole family, they were ready to play! I will truly miss him, but I take great comfort in knowing that he is at peace at last and I'm sure he's already creating new stories to share.
