Obituary For Rita M. Hoyt

Rita Marie (Barry) Hoyt, 75, passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. Rita was born in Quincy in 1938 to Thomas F. and Eleanor F. (Kaes) Barry. Rita graduated from Quincy High School in 1956. Notable for her trademark smiley face signature, she was a warm, caring and giving person.

A Rockland resident for 52 years, Rita or "Reet" to many, enjoyed everything Irish, the color orange, reading, playing cards, trips to Foxwoods, bad sci-fi and horror movies and gabbing with friends. Mostly, however, Rita's passion was her family and spending time with those she loved.

She is survived by her devoted and caring husband of 36 years, George H. Hoyt of Rockland. Rita was the cherished mother of Dianne Stewart and her husband Scott of Taunton; Deborah Hodgdon and her husband Scott of Stratham, N.H.; the late Michael Todd formerly of Quincy; the late twins, Robert Todd and Robin Todd formerly of Quincy; Stephen Todd and his wife Linda of North Andover and Kelley Doucette and her husband Tim of Stratham, N.H. Rita was the sister of the late Thomas F. Barry and his wife Joan of Whitman; Robert Barry and his wife Fran of Kissimmee, Florida; Eleanor Nardone and her husband Tom of Plymouth and Barbara Barry of Middleboro. Rita was the beloved "Mama" to 14 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and "Auntie" to many nieces and nephews.

The family welcomes friends and loved ones to celebrate Rita's life at The Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union Street, Rockland on Tuesday, March 11th from 5-8 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family church in Rockland on Wednesday, March 12th at 11:00 AM. Donations in Rita's name may be made to the Rockland Food Pantry, 12 Church Street, Rockland, MA 02370.

We are all so blessed to have had Rita in our lives growing up. She was the Mom of French Road. If she wasn't teaching us how to make Barbie Doll Cakes or Halloween costumes, she'd be lying on her pool deck with us making creatures out of clouds. She never treated any one different than the other and never left anyone out. Even 50 years later she was still surprising us with her kindness and gifts. She made a huge impact on my life as a mother, a neighbor and a friend. I will NEVER ever forget this incredible, simple and kind woman. Thoughts and prayers to the Todd/Hoyt family. Love you Rita

Dianne, Debbie, Steve, Kelley and George, we are so sorry that we cannot be there on Tuesday or Wednesday to show our love and support for you all and to say goodbye to Rita. Rita was always so very nice to me and made me feel part of your family from the day I met her. She always sent me Anniversary cards, Christmas cards and St. Patrick's Day cards and I loved her for all of her thoughtfulness. I will forever be touched by her smiles and will miss her. I hope you can find peace in that she is no longer suffering and is waiting for each of you to hug again. All our love, Tom and Dianne Nardone

Dear George, Joe and I are so sad to hear of Rita's passing. Every time I saw her riding through the neighborhood with you, she wore the sweetest smile. And my Christmas was always complete when I opened our mailbox and a card signed from George and Rita was waiting for me. Please know that you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.
