Obituary For Richard W. Shoughrow

Richard W. Shoughrow, 70 Died at the Kindred Healthcare Facility in Stoughton after a period of failing health. He grew up in Rockland, graduating from RHS in 1964. He then continued on to So. Shore Vo Tech where he studied to be an electrician. He pursued that career at the Quincy shipyard for two years. He had also worked at Stop & Shop supermarkets since the age of 16, left for the two ship yard years, then returned to work for Stop & Shop for 40 years, mostly in the produce dept.

In 1971 he married his wife Beatrice (Serra) Shoughrow and moved to Whitman to start a family. While living in Whitman he became a volunteer Whitman Police Auxiliary officer which he enjoyed. He moved his family to Hanson in 1978. Dick was an Eagle Scout, and a scout leader for Troop 42 in Abington and was also a leader in Hanson when his boys were young. He loved taking the troop camping at Camp Squanto in Plymouth. Dick was a lover of hunting, fishing and boating joining the Old Colony Sportsmen's Club before moving on to the Hanson Rod and Gun Club. While he was there, he was on the Board of Directors for a short while and could always be counted on at meetings to ask the questions that he thought needed to be asked.

Dick was a Master NRA Rifle and Pistol instructor which permitted him to conduct qualifications for firearms permits. He also was a volunteer instructor for the state of Ma Hunter Education program. He remarkably did this for 25 year for two weeks a year, twice a year. He also kept busy tying fishing flies, making bullets and finding anything for the grandkids to help him with or learn to do with him.

Richard was a devoted husband and father to his beloved wife of almost 45 years and his three children Dan, Jaime and Mike. He was the brother of Paul Shoughrow, Nancy Shoughrow Bates and the late Peter Shoughrow. But when all is said and done, he adored his seven grandkids, Victoria, Gianna, Michael, Daniel, Matthew, James and Alexa. He was their playmate and chocolate supply during their visits, and they adored him beyond belief. The "kids " went away with him" in "Buppy's Room", their hangout with him, and his room of many treasures. There are not enough words to describe how much he was loved and how much he will be missed.

The family welcomes friends and relatives to celebrate his life on Monday, June 13, 2016 at the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union Street Rockland, from 5:00-8:00 PM. After cremation, a Graveside Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday June 21, 2016 at 10:30 AM in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Rockland.

Dear Bea and family - our thoughts and prayers are with you in this very difficult time. Dickie was one of the kindest, sweetest guys I know - I never saw him without a smile on his face, no matter how sick he felt. He always had that twinkle in his eyes. His loyalty and friendship with John Kenney never waivered - such a good friend to John, he will miss him so. His pure love for his family was so evident in every way and I feel blessed to have been his friend. I'm sure he'll be keeping a close eye on his loved ones - May the wonderful memories make you smile - Forever in our hearts - love always, Sue and Bob

My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family Bea. Dick was one of those guys who always brought a smile to your face. He was a hard working man and I am so glad that I had the pleasure of working with him. He was kind enough to bring me and an exchange student to the gun club and we had a ball. He was so educated about guns and taught us alot. Thank you Dickie! May you rest in peace. I am sorry Bea that I will not be able to make the funeral home as I will be away on vacation but please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Bruce J Perry
