Obituary For Richard M. Powers
Richard M. Powers, 76, passed away on October 28, 2015 at his home in Hanover, MA surrounded by his family. He was born on March 6, 1939 in Dorchester, MA to John and Mary (Conway) Powers, of Dorchester.
Dick grew up in Boston (Dorchester), MA. He graduated from Boston English High School. After high school he joined the Army and was honorably discharged in 1964.
Dick married Bette (Sturtevant) in 1963 in Quincy, MA. They were happily married for over 50 years. Dick loved to coach ice hockey and was happiest when he was passing along his love for the game to his sons and their teammates. Even after Rick and Mark had advanced on to the high school and college/junior racks he continued to coach Hanover Youth Hockey players for another 20 years. He was inducted into the inaugural class of the Hanover Hockey Hall of Fame in 2012 in recognition of his years of service to the hockey players of Hanover. Dick was preceded in death by his parents John and Mary and sisters Barbara (Graham) and Constance Powers. Dick is survived by his wife Bette; his sons Rick Powers and wife Nancy (O'Neill) Powers of Canton, their children, Grace, Charlotte and Katherine and son Mark Powers and wife Laura (Colotta) Powers of Abington and their children Alexandra, Analyn and Aidan, and many devoted nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The family invites all to celebrate his life at a Funeral Mass at St. Mary of the Sacred Heart Church, 392 Hanover Street, Hanover MA on Monday, November 2, 2015 at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Hanover Center Cemetery. Calling hours in the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union St. Rockland will be on Sunday, November 1, 2015 from 3:00-7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Friends of Hanover Hockey, P.O. Box 1201 Hanover, MA 02339.

I remember the days of Old Farm Road and the adventures we had exploring. I remember eating pancakes with Mr. Powers in the kitchen on a Saturday probably in 1980 or so. My sympathies to you guys. From all of my family too. - Andy S
