Obituary For Richard J. Porrino

Richard J. Porrino, 74, of Whitman died on March 24, 2020 at The South Shore Hospital after a brief illness. Richard was born in Brockton, son of the late Alfonzo Porrino and Mary (Hannigan) Porrino. Richard was raised by Joseph and Nellie (Beardsly) Burns of Rockland and lived most of his life in that town.

A graduate of Rockland High School, Richard went on to serve as a Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force as a Telecommunications Specialist. After his service, Richard worked for several decades as a customs broker for Air-Seas Brokers., Inc., in East Boston and Tetra Laval Goods (formerly T.W. Kutter) in Avon. He also worked for Star Market and Sears in his later life. Richard earned an Associate Degree in Business Management from Newbury Junior College in 1979.

Richard was a caring, devoted husband and father. He was an avid reader and a huge fan of western films. He enjoyed spending time with his family and loved ones.

Richard is survived by his sons Mark J.H. Porrino and Michael P. Porrino of Whitman and many neices and nephews. Husband of the late Jo-Ann M. (Houldcroft) Porrino of Rockland. Brother of the late Francis M. Burns, Catherine Griffin, James Burns Jr. Marian DiGiano, Geraldine Silvia, William and Robert Burns.

Richard will be laid to rest on Saturday, April 11, 2020 at Holy Family Cemetery in Rockland. Due to public gathering restrictions from the coronavirus situation, it will be a small, private event. A public celebration of his life will be scheduled later in the year.

    Mark, Michael please know that our hearts are heavy with the loss of the last uncle in the Burns family. Your Dad is in every single memory that I have growing up. He was generous and always around to help my father when he was working on his endless projects around the house. I believe with all of my heart that we'll see this group of amazing people again someday. Please know that you and your parents are in every thought and prayer.
