Obituary For Richard C. Jasper

Richard C. Jasper, Sr. 93 of Rockland died surrounded by his family at his home on October 13, 2013. He was born in Rockland to Italian immigrants Lawrence and Teresa (Sabino) Jasper and was raised and educated there graduating from Rockland High School. He later graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute with a BS Degree in Civil Engineering. While at Worcester Tech he was a member of the Phi Kappa Theta Fraternity.

After his graduation, Mr. Jasper was a civilian employee for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He had worked at the National Fireworks Co. in Hanover in their fixed assets accounting department, with his dad at the Lawrence Jasper Contracting Co. and later as a consulting engineer with Camp, Dresser and McKee Co. Richard was employed for the last 30 years of his illustrious career as Vice President of construction and engineering with the Tedeschi Realty and Supermarket Companies. He served the Town of Rockland for 19 years on the Board of Assessors.

He was a member of the Marshfield Country Club, the former Mill Pond Tennis Club, the Rockland Sons of Italy and the Rockland Aerie, Fraternal Order of Eagles. Generous with his time and tender talents, Richard was a very active volunteer with the St. Vincent DePaul Society at Holy Family Church and was honored for his service by the Nazareth Home for Little Wanderers. He was a member of the Registered Professional Engineers Association and was awarded with the Rockland Chamber of Commerce's Citizen of the Year.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary E. (Walsh) Jasper and their children, Ann D. Jasper of Rockland, Mary T. Boyle of NH, Roseann Potter of CA, Sheila J. Horstman of TN, Richard C. Jasper, Jr. of Rockland, John M. Jasper of Rockland and Lianne J. Gillespie of Pembroke. He is also survived by his brother Robert D. Jasper of Rockland, 18 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Josephine Lordi and Rose Caplice. The family welcomes friends and loved ones to celebrate his life at the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union St. Rockland on Wednesday October 16, 2013 from 5-8 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday October 17, 2013 in Holy Family Church, 403 Union St. Rockland at 9:00 AM. Burial will follow in Holy Family Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the "St. Vincent DePaul Society or to Holy Family School.

    I was so sorry to hear about Uncle Richie's passing. I remember how much my father loved to sit with him on folding chairs in our garage and talk about sports and the news of the day. My thoughts and prayers go out to you, Aunt Mary, and your entire family.

    Bro and I just found out this morning of Mr. Jaspers passing. We are both shocked we didn't see the obituary in the paper. Mr. Jasper was such a mild manner kind gentle man.
