Obituary For Richard Barnes

Richard (Dick) A. Barnes, 89 years old, passed away on September 13, 2021. He was born to the late Aubrey and Marjorie Barnes and lived his whole life in Rockland. He was a truck driver, working for Bay State Ice Cream and Jenkins and Simmons. He was an avid sports fan of all the Boston teams, but his true passion was GOLF. He enjoyed watching all the major golf tournaments on TV and loved playing the game. He was a longtime member at Rockland Golf Course, Pembroke Country Club and Strawberry Valley. You would find him at Rockland Golf Course every weekend, playing in tournaments or running tournaments. Richard and his late wife, Joanne loved going on golf trips with their friends, to places like Bermuda, Florida, and the Carolinas. He loved having his grandchildren and great-grandchildren around him. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, of 65 years, Joanne Barnes. He is survived by his loving daughters, Debra Rice and Pamela Crooks and son-in-law, Stephen and was a very special "Papa" to Lindsay Einhaus and her husband, Greg, Courtney Crooks and wife, Tara, and Jarrett Crooks and his family, and his great-grandchildren Everett, Brady, and Dyvyne. He is, also, survived by his brother, "Lenny" Barnes, sisters Nancy Bartlett and brother-in-law, Hartnell, Ginny Berardi and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be private.

Dick was one of the nicest men I remember at Rockland Golf Course! He was always encouraging and almost always had something nice to say to women about golf and life. I remember learning a lot of good things from him. He formed a Women's Golf League in which we were always made to feel welcome - no matter our skill level. Very nice man with a good sense of humor. One of a kind! Susan Marple
