If you are reading this, then I know that you are already smiling at your personal memories of Regina. Those quiet joyous gifts that always make you smile and occasionally laugh out loud. This is certainly not a place to recount the sadness of what we have lost, but a place to cherish all that Regina gave us over the span of her 85 wonderfully crazy and beautifully chaotic years.
We encounter very few people in our lives that are true teachers. Those patient, caring individuals who want you to succeed above all else. Regina was a rare instructor who found selfless joy in her student’s success. If you had been fortunate enough to attend Whitman Hanson Regional High School during the years 1987 thru 2005, chances are you can recite the Quadratic Formula (you’re signing the song in your head right now, aren’t you?). Over the course of her tenure, she taught Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry.
She taught us poems and Irish rebel songs. Her storytelling skills served as an education on how to properly tell an anecdote. She taught us how to raise a glass with aplomb and give a proper toast. She taught us grace and charm and that rare subtle skill of when to sometimes laugh at the absurdity of it all.
Born and raised in Mission Hill, Boston, Regina was the youngest of eight and a lifelong Red Sox fan. She attended Mission High and received a BS in Mathematics from Boston State Teachers College and an MS in Education from Northeastern University.
Her 7 children were her pride and her 15 grandchildren her treasure; for those were what truly brought her joy. Regina always recognized that time was a precious commodity and that it was best spent laughing with friends and family (with the occasional outings to Bldg. #19 and thrift stores for she did love a bargain).
She is survived by her children: Nancy C. (David) Smith of Pembroke, John D. of Peabody, Thomas P. of Brooklyn, NY, David N. (Kathleen) of Huntington, NY, Sara E. (Scott) Kelley of Pembroke, and Jean M. (Michael) Higginson of Duxbury. Regina is predeceased by her husband David M. Campbell and son Kevin G. Campbell.
Friends and loved ones are invited to come sing a song or share a memory or two on Tuesday August 29, 2023 from 4:00-7:00 pm.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at 9:00AM at St. Mary’s in Hanover. Internment to follow at Hanover Center Cemetery with a reception at Rockland Country Club.
