Obituary For Raymond W. Agius

Raymond W. Agius, 75 of Hanson died at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston after a very brief period of failing health. He was born in Brockton, son of the late Paul and Irene (Carreaux) Agius and was raised and educated in Whitman. He as a graduate of the former Whitman High School.

Ray later attended the Franklin Institute in Boston and graduated from Bridgewater State College with a degree in computer science. A Hanson resident since 1987, he had a long career as an electronic engineer with the Foxboro Co. and later Automatic Control in Taunton.

He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force having served during the Vietnam War. He was a longtime baseball and softball umpire and was a member of the Southeastern Massachusetts Umpires Association. He loved working with wood and was a talented finish carpenter.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Janet L. (Erikson) Agius and his children Sean E. Agius of Hanson and Beth A. Sullivan of E. Walpole. Ray was the proud grandpa of Colin R. Sullivan. He was the brother of Paul Agius of Revere Beach, Barbara Barker of Hanover and the late John Agius . The family welcomes relatives and friends to celebrate his life on Wednesday September 28, 2016 at the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home 135 Union St. in Rockland from 5-8 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday September 29, 2016 at Holy Ghost Church 518 Washington St. Whitman at 10:30 AM. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Donations in Ray's memory may be made to the Hanson Food Pantry, www.hansonfoodpantry.org.

    Raymond was a fine man. He was probably the only classmate who never had anything but friends. Over the years I never heard anyone say a bad word about him. I remember that at a record hop at the Indian Head School the DJ asked questions about sports participation. Nobody could match Ray's record> The DJ said, "You're a handy man to have around any school." His prize was a copy of the record, "Handy Man." I couldn't agree more. May all your family be comforted in his loss.
