Obituary For Phyllis Jean Ruthven

Phyllis Jean (Hilderbran) Ruthven, 87, of Rockland, died on July 29, 2010 at the Coyne Healthcare Center in Rockland after a period of failing health. She was born in Lawrence, Kansas daughter of the late Philip and Frances (Brown) Hilderbran, Phyllis was raised and educated in San Antonio Texas. She attended two years of secretarial school and was later married in 1943 to the late James Ruthven. They moved to Massachusetts in 1946 and would later move to Rockland in 1948. Mrs. Ruthven worked as a Private Duty Medical Caregiver assisting alzheimers patients. An active participant at the First Congregational Church in Rockland she served on the Diaconate, Sunday School Program and the Women's Fellowship. She was representative on the United Church of Christ Council of Churches and had been a longtime representative for Camp Farthest Out. She is the mother of James Ruthven III of NV, Rev. Frances Jean Ruthven of Stockbridge and Peggy Ann Fekete of NC, She was the sister of Carl B. Hilderbran of TX, and the late Peggy Hilderbran and Phillip Hilderbran. Mrs. Ruthven is also survived by 2 Grandchildren, and several Great Grandchildren , she was the grandmother of the late Drew Bridges.. The Ruthven family welcomes friends and loved ones to celebrate Phyllis’ life at the First Congregational Church in Rockland on Saturday at 10:30 AM with a reception to follow in the church hall. The Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home of ROCKLAND has been honored to assist the family.
