Obituary For Peter V. Austin

Peter Val Austin, 72, of Rockland passed away on Saturday, May 9th, 2020, after a long, hard fought battle with cancer.

Peter was born in Quincy, and grew up in Abington. He was the son of Seymour and Margaret "Denny" Austin. He graduated from Abington High School in the class of 1965, and Massasoit Community College with a degree in Fire Science. He became a proud member of The Abington Fire Department in 1966. He retired as Captain in 2003 after 37 years of dedicated service. He was also a registered E.M.T. He loved hunting and fishing trips with his buddies and was a member of the Seaside Club in Plymouth. He was a supporter of the M.a.D. Dancers of Marie Little Austin's School of Dance in Rockland. He was also a big support of the Massachusetts State Lottery!

Pete is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Marie Little Austin, and his three sons, Peter V Austin and his wife Sharlene, Marc R Austin and his wife Kathleen, and Ryan P Austin and his wife Courtney, all of Rockland. Also survived by two granddaughters, Shandi and Colette. Also survived by his step grandson Josh Morrison, his brothers, Michael Austin of Whitman, Val Austin of Hanson, and sisters Nancy Weatherwax of Orlando, Florida and Susan Austin Burns of East Bridgewater. Also survived by the close family of Aunt Lorrayne Paolucci and Uncle Bob Perry, Richard and Edna Little, and best friend and brother-in-law of Tom and Dianne Banks, and uncle of Greg Banks. Survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Services at this time will be private due to Covid-19. We will celebrate his life with friends and family at a later date.

    I worked at Anita Marie's in the 90's Peter would come in daily and we would chat for hours! He was so kind and friendly. He was a great guy.

    Pete was such a huge part of my childhood growing up behind the center fire station ❤ I am so sorry for your family's loss. He was such a great guy and power of example to all the 20+ kids that lived in that small neighborhood! Thanks for all laughs football passes, baseball throws and allowing us to climb and ring the bell!!!

    Pete will always be remembered as a wonderful and loving brother and brother in-law, always willing to jump into the fray of the conversation with his opinions and vast knowledge. Pete was always a good and welcoming host at the Austin's cookouts and other festivities which included cooking on the grill and preparing food in the house. I also enjoyed my time at the Seaside club with Pete, he was my sponsor and guide at the club, we will always keep a seat open for Pete at the club. We will miss you Pete and we send our love and prayers to Marie and all the family, fair winds and following seas to you brother. Love you always

    For 27 years I was Chairman of Abingtons Night Before the 4TH Celebration. Pete always worked my Fire Department Details for our annual Circus and July 4th celebration. We had many laughs and good times with Pete after he worked at the Fiji Restaurant. These memories I will always cherish.
