Obituary For Patricia M. Nigrelli

Patricia M. (Farrelly) Nigrelli 1937-2025

Beloved family Matriarch, loving mom, nana and nana Patsy passed away peacefully on July 2nd, 2025.

Pat was born to the late Lawrence and Mary (McGrath) Farrellyof Braintree where she raised and educated. She enlisted in the Women's Army Corp right after graduating High School. She was stationed in the States before serving in Germany as a Communications Specialist. A lifelong athlete, she played basketball and softball through her High School career and while serving in the WAC. Later she was also an active member of the Woman’s Slush softball league in Braintree.

In 2005 she was inducted into the Braintree High School's Athletic Hall of Fame as part of the undefeated 1954-55 Girls Basketball team. Pat was very proud to say she was from Braintree.

Pat was a woman of remarkable strength and determination. After her discharge from the Army and starting a family of 5 children, Pat enrolled in College on the GI Bill persuing a career in Law Enforcement. She graduated from Massasoit Community College with an Associates Degree and shortly thereafter became a youth officer for the Weymouth Police Dept. while continuing her education at Northeastern University where she received a bachelors degree.

In 1978 Pat became the Director of the Norfolk County Sexual Assault unit under the Direction of the late Bill Delahunt. This Unit was the first of it’s kind in Massachusetts. The same year she was appointed as a Deputy Sheriff for Norfolk County. In 1989 she was the first female appointed to the Board of Directors for the Norfolk County Prosecutors Association. Pat continued her education until she received her Masters Degree. Pat continued in her career until 2003 when she retired from the Norfolk County Sexual Assault Unit. After her retirement she relocated to Ft. Myers, Florida for many years before returning to Massachusetts.

When Pat attended parties, cookouts or functions she would always request the song (“We are Family”) and let her presence be known with a big ole “”Whooo Whooo”! She was an avid bargain shopper and had the biggest sweet tooth. Pat was very proud of her Irish heritage, and in 2019 she traveled to Ireland to fulfill her dream. She always had a soft spot in her heart for animals, especially rescues.

Pat is predeceased by her son Kevin Schmanski. Survived by her daughter Mary and her husband Michael Garofalo (who she loving referred to as her son from another mother) from Rockland, son Michael Nigrelli of St. Petersburg, FL, son Richard Nigrelli and his wife Laurie of Abington, Son Thomas Nigrelli and his wife Joanne of Port Charlotte, Fl., her brother Lawrence Farrelly of Sebastian,FL., and her niece Michelle Farrelly of CO.

She will be forever missed by her grandchildren (who would fondly say “a day with Nana….Priceless”), and her great grandchildren whom brought her such great happiness, and many loving cousins and friends.

Pat's family would like to give a special thank you to the entire staff at Benchmark of Hanover and Beacon Hospice for their loving and compassionate care their mom received during her 16 months there.

Her family would like any favorite pictures you may have of Pat to be uploaded to our Skylight digital frame that will be displayed at her service. Pictures can be emailed to [email protected].

Patricia's family invites friends and loved ones to celebrate her life on Thursday July 10, 2025 from 5:00-8:00 pm in the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Friday July 11, 2025 at 9:00 AM in the Old South Union Church in Weymouth. Burial with military honors will follow in the Holy Family Cemetery in Rockland.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to St. Vincent De Pauls.
