Obituary For Pasquale "Pat" Bottazzi

Pasquale M. Bottazzi, better known as “Pat, passed away on August 01, 2011. He was born on November 06, 1939, the son of Fabio Bottazzi Sr. and Anna (Salalaiko) Bottazzi. He will be greatly missed by his nephew Walter Valcourt Jr. and his wife Ann, his niece Linda Zigmont and her husband Robert. Also, his great nieces Jessica Cormier, Amanda Valcourt, Alyssa Valcourt, and Alaina Valcourt and great nephews Anthony Zigmont and James Zigmont. He leaves behind his Aunt Vera and Uncle Robert Cadeiux. He was predeceased by his Sister Catherine Valcourt. Mr. Bottazzi served his country in the Army in the Public Information Office from 1961 to 1964. On returning, he found his first teaching position as a mathematics teacher in Rockland MA, where he rented a room in the home of Miss Madeline Lannin. They became lifelong friends, he was her care giver in her later years. In 1970 Pat took on a position as a Junior High Math teacher in Brockton where he taught for 29 years. He retired in 1999 to take care of his mother whom he loved dearly. After the loss of his mother in 2007 he found The Perfect Job, he taught part time at Trinity Catholic Academy in Brockton until June of this year. Pat never married but had many children, if you count all the students whose lives he has touched. He held a Masters Degree in Education and in 1994 he received the teacher of the year award in Massachusetts along with many other awards through the years. The most cherished keep sake of his teaching career was a newspaper article one of his students wrote about him when he retired, it hung on the wall over his TV that he looked at every day. Pat was very well known around Rockland. He could be found at Anita Marie’s sitting in his favorite stool at breakfast time, if you call 5 in the morning breakfast time, then later at Dunkin Donuts, small coffee with milk and one Splenda! Then on to the bank. He was a regular at the Ninety Nine, where he would always invite someone to join him so he could “fight “you for the check. But most of all he loved his nieces and nephews with whom he had a special relationship and who will miss him. The family welcomes friends and loved ones to celebrate his life at the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union St. Rockland on Friday, August 5, 2011 from 6:00-9:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at 9:00 AM in Holy Family Church.

I only lasted one month in Mr. Bottazzi's South Jr. High School class. I remember his toughness and no-nonsense teacher style well. He expected the very best from his students. I became my own version of Mr. Bottazzi in my classroom and every year I shared fond memories about him with my students. Thank you sir for loving us in a way we couldn't understand in our youth and teaching us lessons that would last a lifetime. Thank you, Mr. B. We will ALL miss you and love you.

Mr. Bottazzi was by far my favorite teacher ever. He is the reason I love math and I credit him for my career choices in life. It says a lot about a man that can touch so many lives and make such a positive impact on so many. He was a great man... I hope he knew how much of an impact he had on so many.

Jack and I are so sad to hear of Pat's passing. He was one of the best teachers who ever lived and was an inspiration not only to his students but also his colleagues. He will be missed by very many. Indeed, the world is a little poorer because Pat is no longer here. Our condolences to his beloved family. Carol Meagher

Thanks for being a great teacher! For always staying after school with us to give us extra help, and for all the fun times, especially when you gave us candy. I will always cherish the watch you gave me and will always keep you in my heart as I further my education. You were a very special teacher and I will miss you a lot. RIP

To Pat, my best friend: Thank you for ALWAYS being there for me. Thank you for the love you gave and showed to me and to the world. Thank you for the lessons you taught me, that there are STILL people in this world that REALLY CARE; people that would do ANYTHING for others and never ask for, or expect, anything in return. Thank you for bringing me back to God and reminding me how important Church is and to thank God for the blessings we have. Thank you for being REAL in a world that is so full of phonies and hypocrites. YOU CHANGED MY LIFE FOREVER by your presence on Earth. I love you Pat and will ALWAYS appreciate and thank God for the pleasure of knowing you. I know that you were very loved and respected by many, many people. You will be missed by everyone who has had the honor and privilege of knowing you. My heart is broken by your leaving us, but I believe, as you did, that there is a place better than here. It's called Heaven, and you showed me that it exists on Earth as well as where it is. I will miss you, my friend, but I will ALWAYS remember you and carry you in my heart FOREVER. I love you Pat, and though your body may be gone, you are still here with us, watching over us and protecting us just as you always have. If I live to be a thousand years old, I will never have the pleasure of knowing ANYONE like you. You are my HERO, my savior, my salvation. Thank you for everything, but most of all, thank you for being you! Heaven is so lucky to have you now. I look forward to seeing you again someday and will try to emulate you and pass on all the things you have shown me. Thank you my mentor and friend. I will never say goodbye, only that I'll see you later. Thank you again for just being you!!! Your friend forever, Gary

I can't figure out how such an enormous heart can fit inside a tiny body. Kind souls like Pat don't come along too often, and the great energy he brought to Anita Marie's most mornings was infectious and wonderful. In my last conversation with him he told me how lucky he felt to have the love in his life from his friends and family. Much love, many blessings and RIP my friend.

Pat Auntie is no longer alone in heaven. She has “her man. You were the truest of friends. Thank you for making so many of my childhood memories special. The birthday parties and Christmas parties at Auntie’s were always so wonderful because of your efforts. I recall that you were always on the hunt for 4 matching dolls for Auntie’s girls. You will be missed. Rest in peace. Love Becky

My son was a former student of Mr. Botazzi's for 2 years at Trinity Catholic Academy. He was more than a teacher, Pat was a friend. He was a kind gentle man with so much love in his heart for his students. He was a wonderful teacher who truly cared and made a lasting impact on the lives he touched. Our hearts are saddened by his passing. Our deepest sympathy to you, he will be remembered fondly and we were so blessed to have known him. Nadine & Donald

Madeline Lannin, my Auntie Mad, always said that there was no one like Pat and she was right. Who else would have given his time so willingly to both his mother and my aunt, sacrificing his own leisure time and interests to make sure they had everything they needed as they grew older and more dependent upon others for their care. Pat faithfully kept his promise to Auntie that she would not have to go to a nursing home..... and because of his care-giving, she was able to stay in her home until she passed away at the age of 102. That, in this day, is virtually unheard of. For his love and care, I and my family will always be grateful. I hope that he knew how grateful we were and how inspirational his self-denial and sacrifice will always be to those who witnessed a true example of what it means to give of yourself. To Pat's family, friends, and students, please accept my sincerest sympathy.

Pat was a really great guy. He would come in to Anita Marie's breakfast most mornings so happy about the day ahead. He loved teaching and had only great things to say about the students. Really nice man. He will be greatly missed.

To a great friend and colleague who truly cared about his students and colleagues. I will miss our daily morning talks between classes. Pat made TCA a better place and he will be sorely missed.

  • 05/25/2021

It saddens me that I will not see Pat's smiling face at my doorway this fall. I will remember him as a man that loved to joke and playfully tease and rarely walked away without leaving a smile on your face. I will always picture him laughing with his students in the hallway. "The most wasted of all days is one without laughter." I will miss him.

I have such great memories of our trips to Foxwoods - me, Pat, Donnie, and John. We had some good laughs whenever we got together, and I'll truly miss them. Pat always bought lunch, and he always insisted that I drive us down in his Lincoln Town car -a beautiful ride! He will be sorely missed.

Pat I first met you at Rockland High 41 years ago when I was in your Algebra class. Always such a serious man while teaching. Much to my surprize you were also a member of the Rockland Sons of Italy. You gave so much of yourself to everyone who needed help. So much you forgot to take care of yourself. It's a shame that you were taken so fast, but you are no longer suffering. You are in the right place now with all your family by your side. We all have lost a true friend, but cannot believe your gone. May those you leave behind continue to heal, knowing you're in a better place and not in pain. The Muscato Family, Chris, Tony, Catherine, Greg

My prayers and thoughts go out to all the family members. Pat was my Math teacher at Rockland Jr. High School back in 1969. I have been friends with him ever since then. Pat was always so devoted to his mother and taking care of Mrs. Lannin. A good hearted person who was always willing to help others. As a police officer I worked many times at the Son's of Italy with Pat, as he called the games. Please get me a coffee Jack, and pour the milk in first. Yes Pat, I still remember. Rest in Peace.

  • 05/25/2021

I will never forget the day of Pat's retirement. Hundreds of former students came to wish him well and thank him. Students from children who had left Jr. High only the year before to adults from years ago. People from all ages and walks of life, from near and far took time from their schedules in the middle of a workday, came to a school cafeteria to show love, respect and gratitude for an amazing man and teacher. When I think of Mr. Bottozzi I am reminded of what St. Francis said' "Preach the gospel at all time and if necessary use words." Pat you managed to do it without the words. Rest in Peace Pat and thank you for teaching all of us how to teach, how to love.
