Obituary For Olga Smith

Olga Rudziak Smith

In her own words…..

"Don't cry for me, I had an extraordinary life!"

I am a proud product of Russian immigrants. My mother Elena Tarremova who was 16 and my dad Dmitri Rudziak (Rhoudyack) at 18 came to Ellis Island where they are honored on the American Immigrant Wall of Honor – DMITRI RUDZIAK- ELENA TAMERA – both on panel 643. My older sister Vera, my brother Nicholas and I grew up in Maynard, Ma in a single family home in a country setting. My dad died when I was 8 and my mom never remarried until I graduated from high school, then she had my other brother and sister, Paul and Sonia. Easter and Russian Christmas were important family celebrations that I loved sharing with the family of my own.

Thank you my God for the incredible journey of Life, Love and Amazing Friendships that got me to ski (my passion). Always catching the "first" ski lift at Cannon Mt. with my best friends Claire, David First, and Paul Parker. And how we celebrated life, with those pitchers of manhattans at cocktail time.

My life took many highways – JOY – JOY – JOY - Of Old Colony Ski Club and skiing Cannon Mountain, and out West in the Canadian Rockies, and off to the Swiss and Austrian Alps. The many special times we shared in Arlington Vermont. Laughs with my bowling friends and winning a nickel or two playing Bridge with the girls. My claim to fame is "a hole in one" in a tournament at Braintree Golf Course that I ended up with the lowest score – of course this is a bit of Bravado, but what a memory!!

My life was filled with Love! And that's what I most want to convey to everybody – my family, friends, special people I met over time and to my beloved husband Al, and to my wonderful children, David and Stephen and Tracy and Renee, and Rachael, Matthew, Nicholas, Patrick, Samantha, Devin and Elizabeth, my fabulous family in Vt. who all filled my life with years of loving precious memories!

David and Stephen – Fantastic years! I remember skiing as a family and wondering when you two would join us on the trail to our right from the woods!!! Oh what glorious fun and memories/much thanks for those and so many never forgotten memories – locked in my heart!!!

To Al – In my life with you as my "caretaker" for so many memorable years I have never told you but you are the sun and the moon and the earth and God's GREATEST gift!!

Love to all! Olga

On Wednesday August 22, 2018, at 96 years young, Mom joined her very special friends; Ruthie, Claire, Helen, Barbara, Mum McNeil, Evelyn, Al & Annette, Audi and Carol, Paul, Jeannie, and many more….

She is uniquely Olga and she touched all of our lives!! If you happen to pass by Cannon Mountain, say a quick hello to Olga, the most wonderful person in the world!!!

We'll have fondue by the fire this year and we know you'll be there singing "five GOLDEN rings"!

We love you MOM!!!

Al, David, Stephen (and Olga says – "Have a GREAT day!")

This was a complete shock to hear this very sad news. She will be missed by all that knew her. We were always impressed with her energy and desire to remain involved with sports, hobbies etc even well into her 90's. I(we) admired her for that. Her memory will remain.. Tom and Carol Harris

I will never forget how Olga welcomed our three children, Caroline, Chase and Conor, and me into her family. I have never met someone with so much passion for life, who loved to smile, and be with her friends and family. We are all so lucky we had her for so long. My very best to Al, Dave, Steven, Renee, Tracy and all the kids at this time for their loss and to celebrate Olga's life.

Olga was an amazing woman. She always greeted me with a smile and a big hug and was interested in what was going on in my life. I always admired her for living life to the fullest, and she put me to shame with the activities she kept up with. At 96, we celebrate her life and all the family and friends that she touched. I'm blown away with her writing her own obituary. She was organized and prepared right to the end. Not really the end, but a new beginning. She will be sorely missed, but when I think of her, it will be with a smile. God Bless!

    To Olga's wonderful family,
I had the honor of meeting Olga only two years ago when I joined the bowling league. We meet on Tuesday mornings at 9:30 in Abington - all with the resolve to do our best. I must confess that Olga's best was always better than my best, but she cheered me on nevertheless. We all loved hearing the stories about her extraordinary life and her loving husband, Al. Loved when her kids surprised her by showing up at the house on her last birthday when she and Al returned home after dinner. She said she told them it was going to be a low key night! It was was my good fortune to have her on my team last year, which meant that we had more time to talk. Her sense of humor, loving nature and captivating stories made being the worst bowler on the team enjoyable. Olga, of course, would never say that I was that bad (bowling average of 63!). Al, I met you briefly when my husband and I went to The Liberty Grill for a bite after a movie this summer. You and Olga were there for dinner. I remember she had surf and turf that night. It was a pleasure to meet Olga's love. The connection the two of you had was palpable. God bless you and all of your family. Olga is singing in heaven's choir now (or maybe she has a solo ). Al, David & Stephen, it was a pleasure to get to know your wife and mother. I met her bowling and unfortunately I didn't know her for long. However, we had a lot in common: skiing and bowling. Olga, may you rest in peace and rise in glory. Diane Grondin, friend, Weymouth, MA

I don't cry for you but do cry for me. You have been a constant in my life as my Godmother for almost 76 years. You are going to be sooo missed. Thank you for all you've done for me over the last 7 1/2 decades. You were such a joy to know and your enthusiasm for life was contagious. As a Godmother you were the best. God Bless and Keep You and I will definitely see you again someday. Love, Ruth

Just found Olga's obituary...how lovely. She was such a fun woman. Sorry I lost touch with her over the years. I knew her through her old friend, Eileen Boyle, my aunt. She lives on through my memory. Love to her family.
