Obituary For Nancy A. Long

Nancy A Long, 82, of Rockland, passed away November 16, 2022. Nancy was born in Boston, MA, February 8, 1940, the only child of the late Mary (Cullen) and Patrick Long. Nancy grew up in Brighton, attended St. Columbkille Schools and continued her education at the Cambridge City Hospital School of Nursing. After graduating she began her nursing career at Cambridge City Hospital, after moving to Rockland she continued her nursing career at Brockton Hospital where she worked as an RN for over 50 years.

In 1961, Nancy married Thomas Long of Somerville. Together they raised three children--Patricia (Pat), Maureen, and Thomas Jr. (Tom). Nancy was an avid mystery reader and She loved doing puzzles especially crossword and jigsaw puzzles but also Wordle and Words with friends among others. She enjoyed her Tuesday morning bowling, dinners with friends, and classic sit-coms-especially I Love Lucy, Andy Griffith, and MASH. She enjoyed live theater whether in New York City, Boston, or the Company Theater in Norwell. As much as she didn’t like football, she loved having family at her home for Patriots game days. She was a frequent rider of the Red Sox bandwagon. The length of the ride was subject to change!

Nancy was devoted to her family. More than anything, she loved her role as Nana. Anytime spent with her grandchildren was valued deeply. She was their number one supporter. No one could be prouder of their accomplishments then she was.

Nancy was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Thomas Long, her parents, and her son-in-law, Gabriel Bannon. She will be deeply missed by her children: Patricia and Michael Faria of Billerica, Maureen Bannon of Rockland, and Thomas and Karen Long of Bridgewater; as well as her grandchildren Kevin, Caitlin, and Erin Faria, Zachary and Audrey Long; and nieces Deirdre Sullivan of Derry, NH, Marion Long of North Andover; and nephew Brendan Long of North Andover as well as many other family members and friends; and of course her pets Finn, Bentley, and Loco.

Nancy’s family would like to acknowledge and thank the nursing and support staff of Brockton Hospital for the dignified, kind, and compassionate care that they showed their beloved former colleague. She could not have been in better hands. The family was very touched by the number of Nancy’s co-workers who came by to visit with Nancy while she was a patient.

Nancy’s family invites friends and loved ones to celebrate her life in the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home on Friday, November 18,2022 from 5:00-8:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held in the Holy Family Church in Rockland at 9:00 AM. Services will be followed by cremation.
