Tom and I have many many happy memories of times spent together with Myrtle and Eddie at Star Island where Myrtle tended the gardens while Eddie tended refrigerators. Always smiling, always steady, always pleasant. Just before our wedding in 1977 a "doe party" was thrown for me, in the Laundry Room and I asked all the ladies present to tell how they met their husbands. When Myrtle's turn came, she asked, which one? All three, we replied. Every one of those stories was heart-warming, bespeaking her life of compassion, positive thinking, warmth and affection. When my father was minister of the Unitarian Church in Norwell, we met Pearl Farley's family, and later it was our pleasure to work with John Farley at Star Island. Watching him working with Eddie - proud grandfather and mentor - was a daily pleasure. Watching him with his grandmother Myrtle showed affectionate moments in a lifetime of love and care. We believe that Myrtle has been the Oldest Shoaler for the past several years, a distinction shared by very few. Warm greetings to Pearl and family from me and my mother Margret Kolbjornsen. I will miss the service on Saturday as I'll be at Star Island then, and I'll be in the Chapel lighting a candle of joy and remembrance for the long and full life of our dear friend Myrtle Donohue. ~ Susy Mansfield

Pearl, my sincere condolenses to you and family for a very special angel that will be missing from the family named myrtle called myrt . I always enjoyed listening to her talk about her wonderful life with Eddie and when she worked ,going out with girlfriends and volenteering during the war and the greatest thing she has ever done and had the privilage to sing at carnegie hall and all about star island . And when she spoke of these things her face would just light up. I will never forget her little smile that said everything was just fine. the last time we talked she said what a wonerful daughter she had and she dont know what she would ever do without her she is just a wonderful daughter she does so much that i feel that she does too much and she said i worry about her. So I just said Myrt your very fortunate to have brought a good girl into this world and you can see that makes you very happy ,then she would say yes it does. Now Pearl can you just see her saying that i can still see her face when she did say it. a Always a Friend Jeanette Foley

Myrtle was a part of my Star Island memories from the time I was a small child. She and her beloved Eddie were there frequently, volunteering and nurturing the college-age Pelicans by example. I will miss the thought of Myrtle on the island - a place I believe she most loved among all others. She was a good, kind, generous heart.

I was a Pelican at Star Island when Myrtle and Ed were mentors for us. Ed saved many refrigerators and Myrtle volunteered for so many things I can't remember the details. I just know that she was a real presence and a wonderful woman.

Miss you every day... To walk into your room and see you smile, to walk over and hug you all the time, the longest hugs ever. You always made me smile and always had stories to tell. I loved sitting with you and listen to the memories you had to share You showed us that life can't be all that bad and there is always a light at the end of a tunnel, You were so strong, You had faith in us all, You had great sprit even if the day was dull. I know you had to go, but I know you're close. when I feel the warmth at night I know its you giving me a good night kiss, when I feel my chest getting tight I know that’s you giving me a big long hug, when I feel the wind brush through my hair I know your whispering hello to me. when I see the sun shine I know you're happy, when I see that bright star I know that’s you watching down on us all and smiling now as beautiful as ever...Love you
