Obituary For Michael F. McMurrough

Michael Francis McMurrough of Dorchester, passed away unexpectedly on April 20, 2020 at the Age of 63. Born on June 8, 1956, Michael was known for his charismatic personality and his ability to light up any room he walked into. Michael was a Master Hair Stylist, many would call him an "Artist with Scissors", and the proud owner of Astra Salon of Boston for over 20 years. Michael also served as a Constable for the City of Boston for many years. When Michael wasn't making someone laugh in his salon chair, you could find him collecting antiques, writing music, playing his harmonica or guitar, or designing jewelry. Michael was a smart, generous, funny, and loyal family man. Michael was undeniably the best dressed in any room and you could always count on him for his witty banter and ability to make friends with anyone he encountered. Michael had a passion for history and literature. Predeceased by his loving parents Joseph and Barbara (O'Leary) McMurrough of Hyde Park, those left behind to cherish his memory are: his son, Mark Coughlin and his grandson Mark Coughlin Jr., both of East Boston; his sister Maryanne Barry and her husband John of Milton; his brother Francis McMurrough of Brockton; and his sister Elizabeth McMurrough of Hyde Park. Michael is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, beloved friends, and clients. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and with much sadness, services will be private.

The family would like to say a special "thank you" to Michael's friends who have reached out to show their outpouring love and support during this difficult time.

Michael, my most special friend among those that are special. You forever changed my life and the lives of those that I brought to you. I cherished our 35 years of friendship and the great luck that with you cutting my hair I had great reason to see you and catch up as our lives grew and changed. I will miss you always and will do my best to continue to pursue what you enjoyed best in me. Rest in peace and see you again someday my friend.
