Obituary For Maura Kathleen Seymour
Maura Kathleen Seymour passed away peacefully on January 18, just nine days after her 89th birthday. She was born Mary Sullivan in Cork, Ireland, to parents Patrick and Brigid.
She is survived and missed by her sons, Stephen (Doreen) of Menands, NY; Patrick (Catarina) of Wilton, CT; sister Veronica (James) Kingston of Scotland; son-in-law Edward Mitchell of Clearwater, FL; seven grandchildren: Shauna (Salvatore) Trifilio, John Mitchell, Lilla Seymour, Sloan Seymour, Sean Seymour, Maud Seymour, and Margaret Seymour; as well as several nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, John, and daughter, Cynthia Mitchell.
As a young woman (and the fifth of six children), Maura was known for her strong and spirited personality, always eager to explore and shape her destiny. After emigrating from Ireland to the United States in 1958, she fearlessly forged a trail for her children and grandchildren to follow.
Together with her husband, Maura lived briefly in Alexandria, VA before settling in Rockland, MA for over 40 years. During their time in Rockland, Maura was an active member of the community—a decorated table tennis player with a collection of trophies, a volunteer at the library, and a eucharistic minister at Holy Family Church.
She worked at the E.T. Wright shoe factory in Rockland for 24 years, and tirelessly climbed her way up the corporate ladder from clerk to accounting programmer running Cobalt on an IBM mainframe computer. Her affinity for technology served her well in her career, and even in her golden years, she never failed to impress those around her with her tech savvy.
To those who loved her, Maura will be remembered as a bright light and gentle soul. She took care in everything she did, from spoiling her loved ones with her famous Irish Soda Bread to lending a sympathetic and supportive ear (and warm cup of tea) to those in need. She was generous with both her time and her hugs.
From New York to Florida and every state in between, she touched countless lives for the better with her indomitable joy and contagious laughter, and inspired everyone around her to appreciate and celebrate the beauty of life.
Funeral mass will be held at Holy Family Church on Thursday, January 25, at 9 a.m. in Rockland, MA, followed by a private burial.
In lieu of flowers, a charitable donation may be made in Maura’s name to St. Peter's Community Hospice Foundation,Glastonbury Abbey, or a charity of your choice.

My sympathy to the family. I worked with Maura at E.T. Wright in the office for many years. She was soft spoken in her Irish accent and a huge gentle heart. Fondly remember her Irish Soda Bread every St, Patrick's day. Rest in Peace Maura. Janice (Kelliher) Austin

Maura was a dear friend, and even after her recent fall she would persevere and say she was grateful it wasn't worse. The loss of her daughter Cindy brought us together many years ago and she and John remained positive, kind and generous, always volunteering and being spiritual. I admired and respected her. I was very grateful we kept in touch every week, always sending a praying hands emoji and ending the conversation with love and God bless. My life has been enriched knowing her and she will continue to inspire myself and others through her spirit.

Dear Steven, Patrick and families. My brothers and I were saddened to hear of the passing of your dear Mum. She was always so lovely to us and of course, a wonderful sister to our Dad. My brothers and I remember fondly our trip to Rockland and the Cape, the great times we all enjoyed. I have a tape of our parents enjoying a sing song. Lovely memories, which I'm sure you and your children have an abundance of. Draw on those special memories and know you were blessed to have such a kind and loving mother. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Love, Catherine and Kal and family.

I worked with your Mom many years ago at E. T. Wright's and have such fond memories of her and our time together there. She was kind and welcoming to me as I started my first job after graduating high school. It was always a pleasure to run into her around town over the years as we raised our families and navigated through life. She never lost her lovely Irish accent, which always made me smile. It is a loss for all who knew her for sure. Blessings to you all and to her as she journeys home...Janet LaCombe
