The soldier stood and faced God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shining, Just as brightly as his brass. 'Step forward now, you soldier, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek? To My Church have you been true? ' The soldier squared his shoulders, and said, 'No, Lord, I guess I ain't. Because those of us who carry guns, Can't always be a saint. I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was tough. And sometimes I've been violent, Because the world is awfully rough. But, I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep... Though I worked a lot of overtime When the bills got just too steep. And I never passed a cry for help, Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears. I know I don't deserve a place Among the people here. They never wanted me around, Except to calm their fears. If you've a place for me here, Lord, It needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don't, I'll understand.' There was a silence all around the throne, Where the saints had often trod. As the soldier waited quietly, For the judgment of his God. 'Step forward now, you soldier, You've borne your burdens well. Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets, You've done your time in Hell.'

I am at a loss for words. I was in complete shock when I read about Matt. He was friends with my son Greg and had been over my house many times. He was always a polite, happy guy. May his memories keep you strong. The Soul takes flight to the world that is invisible. At there arriving, he is assured of bliss, and Forever dwells in Paradise. -Plato With deepest sympathy, Anne-Marie Nevulis

I am so sorry for your loss

  • 05/25/2021

Matt: You will always be remembered! You were what others did not want to be. You went where others feared to go, and did what others failed to do. You asked nothing from those who gave nothing and reluctantly accepted the thought of eternal loneliness?Should you fail. You have seen the face of terror, felt the stinging cold of fear and enjoyed the sweet taste of a moment?s loved. You have cried, pained and hoped, but most of all, you lived times others would say were best forgotten. At least someday you will be able to say that you are proud of what you were a SOLDIER!

Joey and Family: You are in our thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time. We are neighbors and although we didn't know Matthew very well, we watched him grow into a respectful young man. As kids, Joey and Matthew would ride bikes, play over the river and on the hill at the end of our street, and do crazy "boy stuff". Those are the memories we won't forget. You guys were always together and it was nice to see. I feel like we have that in common, our family is very close, especially Dave and Scott. Joey, your brother taught you everything and was your best friend. You are a reflection of his wonderful personality, loyalty, and commitment. Stay strong and don't lose sight of your dreams. You are a great kid and the future is bright for you. P.S. Dave and Scott are here if you need anything. Your neighbors and friends, The Whiting's
