Obituary For Mary J. Corcoran
Mary J. (Mileski) Corcoran, 88 years young, poignantly passed away as the sun set September 25, 2024. Mary was born to Helen Ewell and spent much of her childhood with her grandparents and dedicated Aunts, Josie, Nellie and Mamie. Mary called Rockland home her entire life. She graduated from Rockland High School in 1954 and went on to attend what was then The Forsyth School for Dental Hygiene in Boston. After graduating, Mary began working as a Dental Hygienist in Rockland. Soon thereafter, George “Buddy” Corcoran returned to Rockland from his tour in the U.S. Navy and asked mutual friends to help him meet Mary. They did, and so began a love story that has lasted over sixty-seven years and includes four generations! Married in October of 1957, Buddy was Mary’s husband and best friend, with whom she shared a devoted marriage steeped in mutual respect and love.
Family has always been the first priority for Mary and Buddy, and together they have five children: Linda (Corcoran) Hartford of Northern MA; Patricia Corcoran of Holbrook, MA; Maureen (Corcoran) Lumb of Jamestown, RI; Lawrence Corcoran of Rockland, MA; and Sheila Corcoran of Marshfield, MA. Their family grew to include son and daughter-in-laws, and they affectionately welcomed Paul Hartford; Joseph Lumb; Karen (Haywood) Corcoran; and Sheryl Wade. The joy in their lives grew with each of their seven grandchildren: Charlie Haywood, Fredrick Benson, Mitchell Benson, Brandon Benson, Brittany (Benson) Arrambide, Nicole Grifone and Jody Grifone. Mary and Buddy are both blessed and smitten with their great-grandchildren: Juliet and Harper Arrambide and Xavier Benson. Mary will always be fondly remembered by all as the loving, caring, selfless matriarch of the Corcoran family.
Over the years, Mary and George enjoyed close and loving relationships with their extended family, including many nieces, nephews, and in turn their families who all hold Mary lovingly in high regard. Mary and Buddy also maintained strong, lifelong friendships that they cherished and would like to acknowledge those who have passed.
Beyond family, Mary was passionate about many things! She loved to travel with Buddy and together they visited England, Italy and many of the United States. Nonetheless, Ogunquit, ME was their favorite spot! Mary loved and supported many Animal Rescue Organizations. She relished a tasty dinner out, which usually included dessert! Mary was always up for shopping, and she enjoyed a good chat at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee.
Mary’s warm smile, gracious generosity and welcoming heart will continue to inspire all of us!
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Doctors and Nurses of South Shore Hospital’s ICU whose compassion and professional care for all of us was exemplary!
The Corcoran family invites friends and loved ones to celebrate Mary’s life in the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 from 4:00-7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held in the Holy Family Church in Rockland on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at 9:00 AM. Burial will follow in the Holy Family Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Mary’s name to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or The MSPCA. Information for both charities can be found online.
