Obituary For Mark C. Wood

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Mark C. Wood on June 9th. Mark was a kind, caring, compassionate and thoughtful person who will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Marks’ passion for music, boating, canoeing, motorcycling, camping and excursions in the woods brought great joy to his life. He had fond memories of summers on the Cape (N. Truro) with his family, enjoyed attending concerts (too many to count) and was always working on new projects. Marks’ interests were diverse. During his short life he made and designed jewelry, starting with making bracelets from the spoons in his mother’s kitchen. He brewed beer and wine, was a cheese maker, canner of ghost pepper jelly, bass guitar builder, excellent cook (someone had to feed Ann), a self-taught bassist in an old man (sorry guys) band, gardener, wood worker, stained glass maker, clock maker, dog lover and trainer. Mark was quick witted with an excellent sense of humor, he shared these traits with his mother, brother, sisters and nephews. Like his mother he was intelligent and knowledgeable in a variety of subjects and was always willing to share his insights and thoughts when asked.

Mark was born in Milton on April 25, 1959. He was 65. He was raised in South Weymouth and graduated from Weymouth South High School in 1977. Mark was a member of UA Pipefitters, Local 537.

Mark is predeceased by his mother Helen R. Wood (Harkins), father William A. Wood, and brother William G. Wood. He is survived by his beloved wife Ann Marie (Kelly) Wood, his sisters Jeanne DeBoer and her husband Robert “Gus” of Quincy, and Tracy Wood and her husband Scott Blomquist of Carver.

Mark was loved by his friends and family including many nieces and nephews, who will always remember him for his kindness, humor, and the warmth he brought to their lives. Mark’s passing leaves an immense void in the hearts of many. His legacy of love, talent, creativity and strength will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Mark's family invites friends and loved ones to celebrate his life in the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Jome on Sunday June 30, 2024 from 4:00-7:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent in Mark’s name to the American Kidney Fund or the American Diabetes Foundation.
