Obituary For Margaret A Jokinen Tyrie
Jokinen Tyrie, Margaret A (Thompson) – December 1, 2025 Age 86
Of Norwell, formally of Hanover entered into life eternal early Monday morning, December 1st. Born in Brownington, VT, Margie moved to Canton at age 5 then to Hanover as a teen. It was there that she met and married Charlie Jokinen. They enjoyed 27 years of marriage before his passing in 1985. She then married James Tyrie and had 20 more years of happily married life before his passing in 2007.
Margie was a bookkeeper by trade. She worked at E.T. Wright Shoe in Rockland and South Shore News in Hanover. She would balance a checkbook to the penny. Later she worked as a bedmaker at a nursing home for some casino money. She enjoyed going to the casino and playing the slots with her sisters. She was an avid Red Sox fan. She would have advice for the team while watching whether they asked for it or not.You could expect to watch game shows when you came to visit Grammy (only when the Red Sox weren’t playing). Margie was a member of the St. Moritz Horseshoe Club in Quincy.Although short in stature, she could pitch a mean shoe. In 1993 she placed first in the Women’s Class C State Tournament. Always up for a game, she would enjoy a hand or two of cribbage. She always had a pegging hand no matter what card her opponent threw.
Margie enjoyed talking and spending time with friends and family. Carving pumpkins at Halloween, egg hunts at Easter, making ambrosia for the grandkids, sitting in a lawn chair in the backyard watching the goings on were some of her favorite things to do. She enjoyed watching the birds come to the feeders especially the hummingbirds. She was surrounded by love either in person or on the phone up to her last. She was a gift.
Predeceased by her husbands, Charles Jokinen Sr and James Tyrie, and her daughter, Carol (Bob) (Jokinen) Hyland. Family was Margie’s greatest treasure. She is loved dearly by her son Charles (Jeanne) Jokinen Jr of Brownington, VT and daughter Cheri (David) (Jokinen) Dauphinee of Norwell. A loved Grammy by her grandchildren Robert (Sara) Moffett-Hyland of Ware, Benjamin (Troy) Hyland of Hanover, Michaela (John)(Jokinen) Ray and Charles Jokinen of Brownington, VT, David (Darlene) Dauphinee Jr of Fletcher, VT and Amanda (Jake)Theran of Scituate. Beloved GG of Loudon, Annabella and Harper Dauphinee, Carol Theran, Alissa Burton, Jeremy Moffett-Smith, and Baby Ray due June 2026. Margie is also survived by her twin sisters, Sally Tibbetts and Shirley Ainslie both of Hanover as well as many nieces, Shannon, and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Jerry, Edwin and David Thompson.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday December 7th at 2pm at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 17 Church St., Hanover with a Celebration of Life immediately following in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to a local animal shelter or charity of your choice.

I still have a picture in my mind of her from the 1970's sitting at the kitchen table laughing with her husband and relatives. She always made me feel welcome in your home. My sympathy to the family. Regards Sandy Warner Thompson
