Obituary For June "Pat" Donnelly

June “Pat” Donnelly
August 26, 1951 – February 13, 2025

June “Pat” Donnelly, a cherished member of the Rockland community since the age of 10, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2025, with her loving family by her side. While her time on earth has come to an end, her unforgettable spirit, humor, and boundless love will echo through the hearts of all who knew her.

Born at Roslindale Hospital as part of the first set of twins ever delivered there, Pat and her late twin brother, Bruce Paul MacDonald, instantly made history—something Pat would be sure to remind you of with a playful smirk. She was the cherished daughter of the late Norman and June MacDonald of Rockland, who undoubtedly greeted her at heaven’s gates with open arms.

Pat shared a beautiful life with her devoted husband, Hugh Donnelly, whose love and partnership brought her endless joy. Together, they built a family full of love, laughter, and just the right amount of mischief. Pat was the fiercely proud mother of Michelle Kennedy and her husband Manny of Rockland, Hugh Donnelly IV of Brockton, Karen Laugalis of Rockland, Kelly McMillan and her husband Rodney of New Jersey, and Kim Donnelly of Rockland.

As “Mimi,” Pat was the heart and soul of her grandchildren’s lives. Darian Allen and his girlfriend Shauna Walsh, Mia Gomes, Leila Kennedy, Makayla Kennedy, Ava Kennedy, Emily Laugalis, Devin Donnelly and his girlfriend Adrianna Lynch, and her beloved grand pup Kobe, all knew that Mimi’s love was unconditional and everlasting. She was eagerly awaiting the arrival of her first great-granddaughter, Ellie, who will undoubtedly grow up hearing stories of her great-grandmother’s legendary humor and warmth.

Pat’s bond with her siblings was unbreakable. Predeceased by her twin Bruce, she is survived by Norman MacDonald of Brockton, Steven MacDonald Sr. of Rockland, Janice Nihill and her husband Richie of Marshfield, Brian MacDonald and his late wife Barbara of Rockland, Robert MacDonald and his wife Joan of Rockland, Jamie Graham and her late husband Fred of Rockland, Jill Schneider and her husband Tommy of Rockland, and Mary Grover and her husband Donny of Rockland. Her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews adored their Aunt Pat, who never missed a chance to spoil them.

Pat dedicated many years to the Town of Rockland, serving in various roles with a commitment that earned her the respect and admiration of her community. She also served as Water Commissioner, proudly representing her town and making her voice heard—a voice that no one could forget.

Known for her razor-sharp wit and quick tongue, Pat had an uncanny ability to make you laugh even on your worst day. She was the life of every party, and her presence was so radiant that even heaven will be brighter now. A devout woman, Pat’s faith was her compass, and she made everyone feel like family, welcoming all with open arms (and probably a sarcastic comment or two).

Pat’s love for Hallmark Christmas movies, New England sports, Chinese food, and seafood was only rivaled by her passion for baking. Her kitchen was a haven of sweet treats—cookies, brownies, cakes, and her famous fudge—that brought comfort to everyone lucky enough to taste them.

Summers at Pat’s pool were legendary. Family, friends, neighbors—everyone knew that Pat’s pool was the place to be, filled with laughter, love, and plenty of sunscreen. She hosted every holiday with warmth and joy, making each gathering unforgettable. Even a simple trip to Stop & Shop became an adventure with Pat, who knew the aisles (and the cashiers) like the back of her hand.

She was a world-class bowler in her own right, running a Dunkin’ Donuts-sponsored bowling league with Hugh for over 30 years. Pat loved sharing stories of her bowling “glory days” and was never shy about reminding you how good she was. In her younger years, she found joy in bingo nights with her sister-in-law, Barbara and her sister, Janice, creating memories that lasted a lifetime.

Pat never forgot a birthday—never. She remembered every single one and made sure each person felt special, often with a homemade treat in hand. Her memory was a vault, holding the birthdays, stories, and secrets of everyone she loved.

Her favorite trip was to Ireland, where she kissed the Blarney Stone (as if she needed more charm) and marveled at the beauty of Trinity College. She had a mischievous streak, famously teaching every kid in the family a swear word or two, much to the delight of the children and the dismay of their parents.

Even in her final days, Pat’s thoughtfulness shone through. She brought candy to the hospital, sharing sweetness with every nurse, doctor, and staff member who cared for her. Her selflessness knew no bounds.

Pat Donnelly was more than just a wife, mother, sister, Mimi, and friend—she was a force of nature, a beacon of love, and a wellspring of humor. Her light was so brilliant that not even her passing can dim it. While she may no longer be with us in person, her spirit will continue to guide us, comfort us, and make us laugh when we need it most.

Her family invites all who knew and loved Pat to join them in celebrating her extraordinary life. She may have left this world, but heaven just got a little more fun.

Rest easy, Pat. Save us a seat at the party.

Pat's family invites friends and loved ones to celebrate her life in the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home on Thursday, February 20, 2025 from 5:00-8:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Holy Family Church on Friday, February 21, 2025 at 9:00 AM. Burial will follow in the Holy Family Cemetery.
