Obituary For Joseph "Dick" Steinberg
Joseph Richard "Dick" Steinberg, 84 of Rockland died at his home surrounded by his family on August 26, 2013 after a period of failing health. He was born in New York City, son of the late Gerard and Anna (Mattson) Steinberg. He was raised and educated in North Adams and Quincy, graduating from Quincy High School in 1946. Mr. Steinberg was also a graduate of Boston University and was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
A Rockland resident since 1953 he had a long distinguished career as Associate Director of Information Processing Services at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for more than 35 years
Dick was an active member of the First Congregational Church in Rockland having served on the Board of Deacons, Financial Secretary, Moderator and Sunday School Teacher. He also served the Town of Rockland as a member of the Rockland Memorial Library Foundation. He also served as a volunteer blood drive coordinator in Abington.
Active in Masonry he was a member of the John Cutler Lodge AF & AM, the York Rite Bodies where he served as Past Master and Secretary. Dick was recognized by his brother Mason's with the Joseph Warren Medal and the Benjamin Hurd Medal for distinguished service in Masonry.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred (Simmons) Steinberg and his children, Peter J. Steinberg and his wife Elizabeth of Lenoir, NC and Jane S. Brown and her friend Gary Spielberg of Silver Springs, MD. He was the grandfather of Allison Hagge and the brother of James D. Steinberg, Sharon Donahue, David Mallar and the late John Steinberg and Judy Fox.
The Steinberg family welcomes friends and loved ones to celebrate his life on Wednesday September 4, 2013 in the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union St. Rockland from 5:00-8:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be celebrated at 11:30 AM on Thursday September 5, 2013 in the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors will follow the service in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
Memorial Donations may be made to the Rockland Memorial Library 20 Belmont St. Rockland MA 02370.

Although as adults , we did see each other very often, as kids the cousins were always together. I remember all the fun times we had. I will always remember Dickie with a smile on my face. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.
