Obituary For John R. Avery

John R. Avery, 61 of Rockland died on January 2, 2016 at the South Shore Hospital. He was born in Boston son of the late Francis J. and Eleanor M. (Lord) Avery and was raised and educated in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood.

Jack enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served in the Mediterranean Sea region. A longtime Norwood resident, he has made his home in Rockland for the past 4 years.

He was a self-employed courier and through his business The Children's Chef, he delivered meals to families for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years Joanne L. (Melson) Avery, a daughter Kaitlyn J. Avery-Corbett of Rockland and step son Matthew C. Kennedy of Hyde Park. He was the brother of Janice M. Williams of Roslindale, Francis J. Avery of Pembroke, Jeffrey P. Avery of Norwood and Joel F. Avery of Las Vegas. He was the grandfather of Elizabeth C., Emily C. and Justin T. Kennedy. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son Joshua Avery and a brother Joseph R. Avery. The family welcomes friends and relatives to celebrate his life on Sunday, January 8, 2017 at the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union Street Rockland from 4:00-7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, January 9, 2017 at 9:00 AM at Holy Family Church. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. . Donations in his memory may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN. www.stjude.org.
