Obituary for John S. Leighton

John Stanley “Jack” Leighton passed away peacefully on October 23, 2022 following a period of failing health. Jack was born on November 21, 1931 in Quincy, MA to Levi and Beatrice (Drysdale) Leighton. He was raised in Quincy and Rockland. Following high school Jack enlisted in the United States Navy and later graduated from The University of Louisville as a member of ROTC. Jack had a long and successful career in the Information Systems industry and retired from Honeywell after thirty years.

Jack was known as a gracious man who made friends easily and had many interests. He was an avid reader, enjoyed discussions of politics and current events, solving puzzles and mathematical equations. He learned chess later in life, always wanting to continue learning. One of his major interests was European monarchy. Jack vacationed on Cape Cod and for several years enjoyed a home in Florida during the winter months.

Jack was a long-time resident of Wakefield and one of the original owners in his condominium complex. His tenure serving as a Trustee spanned over 25 years. He enjoyed spending time with friends and celebrating holidays with his family.

Jack was predeceased by his parents, his brother William and his partner, Richard Sullivan. He leaves behind his devoted friend and “surrogate daughter” Regina DiNapoli, cousins Maureen Ellis Schnider, Robert K. Ellis, Jr., Paul Ellis, Sally Ellis Coleman, Paul Hiltz, Jr., Lester Hiltz and Eric Hiltz and their families, in addition to many friends.

A graveside service to honor Jack’s memory will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 a 11:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, 990 LaGrange Street, West Roxbury, MA.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to All Care Hospice, 210 Market Street, Lynn, MA 01901

    My thoughts and prayers go out to his family & friends., I had the honor of spending time with Jack over the past few months as a volunteer for AllCare - he truly was a kind man with a witty sense of humor and we had lengthy conversations over our visits. May he rest in peace - Linda Mirasolo
