Obituary For John Jack McCarthy
John “Jack” Matthew McCarthy of Rockland, MA sadly passed away on Wednesday July 26, 2023 after a brief illness. Born in Boston, MA on July 15, 1946, he was the youngest of 5 children growing up in Mission Hill. John was raised by his widowed mother, Delia McCarthy, and his uncle John. He met his wife Marion, in 1980 and they were married in January 1981. Jack, as we was often called by his family, became an instant father to Marion’s three young boys - Rick, Ken, and Craig. He always made time for his boys and maintained an amazing relationship with them throughout their adulthood. Jack involved his boys in everything he did and supported them in their life endeavors. He retired in 2013 after 40yrs with Boston Edison and was a lifetime member of Local 369 - Utility Workers Union of America AFL-CIO. Jack had a passion for many things, his family, vacationing at the beach, all Boston sports teams, and an occasional visit to the casino. He was not only a wonderful husband but also a kind hearted father. In 1998, Jack became a grandfather and nothing pleased him more than being involved in the lives of his 13 grandchildren. Papa, as he was known to his grandchildren, always had a way to make his grandchildren smile. His children and grandchildren will miss him dearly.
"Papa, you are in our thoughts and prayers every single day.”
Jack is survived by his loving wife, Marion of 42yrs, his three boys and their wives, Rick and Karen Gainey, Ken and Charise Gainey, and Craig and Elizabeth Gainey; his thirteen grandchildren - Jake, Alexander, Sam, Luke, Zoie, Christopher, Nick, Bella, Charlie, Sophie, Calvin, Jay, and Max - along with his many nieces, nephews, and longtime friends.
The family will be having a private service but donations can be made in John’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association
