I met Jack's dad once, and I never forgotten how nice a guy he was to me that evening. We talked about Jack and what led Jack to play drums, and Mr. Shea, told me he was a drummer too ! I told Mr. Shea, I had many Irish traditional musicians in my family, and he and I talked quite awhile, he will be missed.

I even have a 33 1/3 album of your dad's. He was a true gentleman. May your memories help you through this difficult time, and find comfort that he is reunited with your mom. My deepest sympathy.

When I think of the individuals for whom I had the utmost respect during and after my years in Rockland, John is at the top of the list. I will always appreciate his support of WRPS and cherish his personal friendship. Our talks of the big bands and their influence on movies, radio and television could go on for hours. He was one of Rockland's all-time greatest and my thoughts and prayers are with his family and many friends at this time.

Tom and I were so sad to hear of the passing of Mr. Shea. I had the pleasure of meeting him several times and also hearing his music at the Nantasket Pavilion several times. I knew Mr. Shea was an incredible musician (don't tell my guitar-playing husband Tom that my favorite instrument is the drum) and band leader as well as a dedicated public servant in Rockland and a truly devoted family man. I was glad to get to know more about Mr. Shea during Kevin's eulogy during the funeral. To hear that Mr. Shea had traveled so much and performed for world leaders was truly impressive. Knowing that gave me an even deeper respect for the way that Mr. Shea continued to serve his local community and family without resting on his laurels of prior accomplishments. However, I will forever be grateful for Mr. Shea's kindness to my daughter Kristin, a fellow musician, whenever she would visit Colleen when she was home from NYC. Nothing touches a parent's heart more than someone being kind to their child. Mr. Shea graciously gave Kristin an autographed album of his music this past Christmas during her visit. I was so touched by that kind act. I know that the family and close friends have many many fond memories of Mr. Shea and I pray that those memories, along with God's love, will bring them comfort during this time of loss. Sincerely, Marian Flammio Rockland MA

John and I used to transport the residents from the South Shore Rehab Nursing home in Rockland to the Holy Family Catholic Church, for the Mass of the Annointing. He was the driver and I was the Helper. We would have old War Stories of being in the military. He was such a kind hearted man. As time moved on he was no longer able to do that. We would see eachother in church at the 4pm Mass or the 9 am Mass. We would shake eachothers hand and I would ask him: "John Boy" How are you doing now?" Well, Dave he would say; " I finally made it to 90 and I have reached my goals and now I am ready to go home." I will miss my good friend "John Boy". Best Regards, David Griffith

Dear Kevin, Kathy, and Jack, Your Dad was one of my favorite people in the world, a mentor, and a role model. I often told him that working for him at Moseley's was one of the best things that ever happened to me, and it certainly was. So many of these tributes ring true - a real gentleman, a class act, with a great sense of humor and an Irish twinkle in his eye! He really loved his family and missed his late wife dearly. I've compiled a whole page full of his expressions and one-liners, and I still think about them and laugh almost daily! May God rest his soul among the Saints' in heaven!

A great man, a great role model, a great inspiration, both musically and personally... and no drummer ever made "2-beat" swing harder. The very first time I ever led a band at Nantasket Beach, it was for the Brockton Musicians Association, and I got to hire my sidemen... I hired John, who had so generously hired me so often before, because I knew that the crowd there knew and loved him, and because I knew he loved being a sideman, something that, as a bandleader, he rarely had the opportunity to enjoy. (I know the feeling.) After we'd finished our program he leaned over and said, "Nice job, son, and watch your back." I looked at him and said, "Why?" He smiled and said, "By not making any mistakes, you made some enemies today." Then he said, "Welcome to MY world." And then he roared out the laugh for which he was so well-known... and taught me an invaluable lesson in the politics of the music biz. Great, great man.
