All- I am saddened to learn of Johns' passing. He was always a friend and true Comrade. John was a kind face and warm handshake but was never to be taken lightly when he felt he was right. I know he loved all of you so much. It was obvious when the clan was together. I am thankful for his friendship, his wisdom and counsel, his support and advice. A true VFW man, a proud State Commander and the father of another. Such a great and lasting legacy. I pray for John and for all. May he rest and keep watch over you all.

To the family of a gentleman, I had the distinction of serving as his Senior Vice Commander, as John served proudly as VFW State Commander. He was a friend, a true leader, and will be missed by many. Both Rita and I offer our sincere condolences and our heart felt sympathy. PSC Robert M. & Rita M.Van Kirk

My father-in-law for a short while, but my friend forever! John was the most wonderful man i have ever known (next to my dad)! His kindness and acceptance was beyond amazing. His love for his family was tremendous and purely inspirational. His love for his wife, Barbara, was beautiful and real. This man set the bar high, but his children and grandchildren are meeting it. The entire family is amazing and are loved so much by so many! Never will I ever forget this wonderful man, never will i not have love and respect for him and his family. Rest in the sweetest peace, Papa John! Love you!
