Obituary For Joan Wotton

Joan Wotton (Rimkus) of Rockland, Massachusetts, born March 23, 1956 at Beaufort Naval Hospital, South Carolina, passed on to the next life on Tuesday November 25, 2025, after a fierce battle with interstitial lung disease.

Joan was known for being the calm, steady light in the lives of all who knew her. She will always be remembered for the quiet, consistent love she poured into everything she did. Her passing has left a void in the lives of all those that were privileged enough to have known and loved her. The memory of Joan’s warm love and strong spirit will always be remembered and celebrated.

Raised in Hudson Massachusetts, Joan was the product of the strong love of Victor and Rosemary Rimkus, and her seven siblings. A tight knit family stitched together by hard work, laughter, and a deep appreciation of that togetherness, that’s impossible not to feel when you walk into a room full of them.

In 1988, Joan married Michael Wotton of Rockland.Together they raised three children, Seth, Sam, and Alison. Putting her strong work ethic to use, she and Michael established a software consulting firm based out of their home in Rockland. Amidst the challenges of raising three children, the two of them laid the foundation for a successful businessthat carried her many places with so many friends made along the way.

Joan had a deep passion for music which began early, heavily influenced by her musical siblings and upbringing. A pianist and acoustic guitarist, she pursued her craft with great enthusiasm, playing professionally at Holy Family Parish of Rockland and later serving as the music director at Saint Bernadette Catholic Church of Randolph, where she was held in high regard by all who knew her.

A woman of action, Joan was quiet and strong, often deciding to show us how she felt instead of telling us. If you only looked for her words, you might miss the real message she aimed to convey. She illustrated her love with a steady, calm presence that always showed up, and never let you down.

Joan is survived by her husband Michael, and their three children: her son Seth and his wife Katherine, her son Sam, and her daughter Alison. Her beloved grandchildren, Gordon and Layla, who brought her immense happiness and joy. Her lovingsiblings, Peter, Andrew, Julie, Martha, and Matthew, who together, all remained each other’s constant support and counsel. Reuniting with her deceased loved ones, her brothers Martin and Michael, and her parents Victor & Rosemary.

Joan’s strong spirit will live on, continuing to uplift and inspire us. Gone too soon but never forgotten. We are blessedto have had her as a mother, grandmother, wife, daughter, sister, and friend.

Thank you, Joan, for the gift your life was and continues to be.

Dear Joan, I am so sad and will miss you dearly. Please know I am thinking about you constantly. I am so grateful for the long time we spent making music together. You always made me feel safe and cared for and not judged. I loved our conversations and laughs and songs. You watched me grow up over about 20 years and touched my life in such a positive way. I will be forever grateful. To Joan's family: Joan was such a love. She had this quiet strength about her and always put others first. Her warm demeanor made her very calming to be around. Being around Joan was always a positive experience. Joan always met me where I was at without judgement or expectation. She was a rock for me and for others in her life, and never wanted recognition or attention for being kind and helpful; it's just who she was. I was always able to be myself around Joan. I am so sorry for your loss. Please know many people like me are saddened and shocked but also much better people for having known Joan. I am grateful that she was in my life. To Alison, Seth and Sam: She talked about you all the time and loved you beyond words. Your mom was a very special person. Love, Julie (Asztalos) Laquidara former singer at St. Bernadette Parish julie.k.asztalos@gmail.com

Over the past 18 years I was blessed to have been able to get to know Joan through her work with us at the Massachusetts Lobstermen's Association. She started working with the Association 30 years ago or so and has always righted our ship. Her dedication to her family was always her priority and passion and her dedication to her work was tireless. She and I were emailing and texting right to the end because she was part of our work family that appreciated everything that she did for us. May you rest in sweet eternal peace Joan. .

I have known Joan since 2003, when she helped me build the foundation of the software that still supports my business today. Over the years, Joan and I spent countless days, nights, and long hours together - working, talking, and sharing our lives. She was someone I deeply enjoyed, admired, and respected. Joan often spoke with such pride and love for her children, her family, and her passion for music. Those conversations always stayed with me. I am truly sorry that life's paths pulled us in different directions. But the memories of her kindness, her support, and the warmth she brought into my life will always remain. I can only hope I was able to give her even a fraction of what she gave me. My heartfelt condolences go out to her family. Joan, you were an important part of my life, and I will always be grateful for the time we shared.

Joan and I were roommates in Weymouth before she and Mike were married. We stayed friends and worked together (computer) for a number of years until I moved to Maine. Though our visits were less frequent after that, we stayed in touch. When we did connect, we always picked up where we left off. She was always a calm and steady presence and I enjoyed our times together. I know she loved her family fiercely. She will be missed by those whose life she touched. I will miss her. May her memory be a blessing to her family.

Dear Mike and Family, There are just no words to describe how saddened we are at the passing of Joan. I have honestly. Never met a more giving person than Joan, especially when it came to helping in any way with music. I have so many fond, fond memories of all our years together singing at Holy Family in the choir, Lifeteen and at mass. Her giving nature will absolutely be missed by so many. Please know you are all in our thoughts and prayers. With much love, Kathy and Fred
