Obituary For Jeanne Marie DeLong

Jeanne Marie (Melia) DeLong, 95, of Rockland, passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, April 28, surrounded by her family and endless love. Born and raised in South Boston, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Maude Melia. Beloved wife of the late Roy Edward DeLong. Cherished mother of Jeanne Marie DeLong of East Bridgewater, Dorothy Campbell of Rockland, Roy DeLong of Quincy, Donna DeLong of Rockland, Donald DeLong of Rockland and Christine Spellman of East Bridgewater. Loving sister of Lorraine Cavanaugh of Washington State. Loving Grandmother to twelve, Great Grandmother to fourteen and Great Great Grandmother to one. Jeanne was active in the church serving as a Eucharistic Minister, a CCD teacher and was involved with the Christmas Bazaar. She was the Matriarch of her large, tightknit family. As the mother of two sets of twins, she was actively involved in the Mother of Twins group, having served for several years as President. Jeanne met lifelong friends in this group with their motto being “Where God Chooses the Members”. Jeanne could always be found in the kitchen whether it was making a big Sunday dinner for her always growing family or baking up treats for the next time someone stopped by. She always had a “freezer full” on reserve, all labeled so one of her Grandchildren could easily grab a bag of their favorites for the road after a visit. When she wasn’t in the kitchen, she enjoyed trips to the Cape with her daughters or a day trip to the casino with her niece, Regina. Her life blessed us all and she will be greatly missed. Her legacy will be her devotion to her family and unwavering faith in God right up until the moment He called her home. Jeanne’s family invites friends and loved ones to celebrate her life in the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at 8:00 AM. A Funeral Mass will follow in in the Holy Family Church at 9:00 AM. Donations in Jeanne’s name may be made to The Norwell NVNA and Hospice, 120 Longwater Drive, Norwell MA 02061.

We enjoyed Mrs. Delong's frequent visits to the Rockland library. It was such a pleasure to talk with her and she shared with such pride happenings of her ever growing family. Her love for books was inspiring.

My thoughts and prayers to all in the family. Celebrate your wonderful memories, you have many of them. Some of my greatest memories as a teenager was spending time at the Delong house. Jeanne was the BEST baker, every holiday was filled with her cookies! Hugs to you all, bless you Mrs. Delong.
