Obituary For Janet R. Condon
Janet Richmond (Snyder) Condon—beloved mother, wife, sister, and friend—of Rockland passed away on March 22, 2016 at the age of 84 with family by her side. She was born and raised in Rockland, daughter of the late William and Mary (Buckingham) Snyder and the sister of Sylvia McCarthy of Pembroke and the late Dolores Burpee and John Snyder.
She was a member of the Rockland High School class of 1949, and it was there that she met her soul mate, Richard Bernard "Ziggy" Condon. After graduation, Janet and Ziggy moved to Las Vegas where he was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base. She relished the adventure, working at the famous Last Frontier Hotel, meeting lifelong friends, and welcoming her first daughter, Karen Dean Condon (Delray Beach, FL).
She returned to Rockland and raised her growing family: Cheryl Richmond Condon and Richard Bernard "Chip" Condon (Suffield, CT) and Leigh Preston Hallisey (Natick). She enjoyed working outside the home and meeting new people, spending many years hostessing at the former North River House restaurant and working at various retail stores and the Rockland Public Schools. She was a member of the Rockland PM Club and was actively involved with the Rockland Library.
Janet will be remembered as a true individual, with a quick wit, a sharp mind, and a generous spirit. She was a gifted writer, a voracious reader, and appreciator of beautiful music. She loved the ocean, Sunday rides, a cat to pat, the first peepers of spring, and above all, her family.
She is survived by Richard, her husband of 65 wonderful years, their four children, son-in-law Peter Hallisey, and granddaughter Lila Preston Hallisey, her "sweetie bird." We love you more.
Donations in her memory can be made to the Rockland Public Library and the Last Resort Cat Shelter in Hanover.
The Magoun-Biggins Funeral home of Rockland is honored to be assisting the family. Funeral Services will be held at a later date. T

It's hard to even comprehend that Janet has passed. When I think of her I smile and remember all the wonderful times we had at the beach and how she would not drink a cup of instant coffee! It had to be real, just like she was. So sorry. Love, joan

My sincerest sympathy to Ziggy and your family. We had some funny times when we worked together years ago. Janet was a special friend to my Aunt Anna since they were young. Anna always spoke highly of Janet. I'm sure Anna & Janet are reuniting up in heaven and their friendship will continue. May you be at peace now and forever and may your family take comfort in knowing you are home now. My thoughts are prayers are with you and your family....

I am saddened to hear of Janet's passing. She loved talking about you Zig, during our walks from school to Rockland hill. She knew she would marry you. May the Lord give comfort to you and the family.

We were very sorry to hear of the passing of Janet. She was the first person my mother met when my parents bought the house next door to Janet and Ziggy in 1959. She was never a stranger to our home and would often come over and spend time on the back porch in the afternoon with my mother chatting over coffee. Janet was a quick witted, very intelligent and always had time for others. She will be greatly missed.
